Cedar Bluff News:  Mrs. Dodson and daughter, Miss Elsie, have been visiting Mrs. Wesley Hilton. They returned home Sunday.

Munsey News: Elden Ball and Will Reed of Munsey visited from Saturday until Sunday with their grandparents near Seligman.

Munsey News: Herman, the little two year old son of Mr. and Mrs. James Garrett, was burned to death Wednesday and its body was laid to rest in the Munsey cemetery Friday. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. James Carter.

Munsey News: We understand they have changed postmasters at Eagle Rock. Elmer Skelton is our new postmaster now.

Munsey News: There was a candy braking and a music party at Charley Cornell's Thursday night. Everybody enjoyed themselves splendidly.

Purdy News: F. A. Archibald and A. M. Gurley attended the Presbytery at Carthage last week.

Shady Grove News: Emmett Utter and sister, Laura, visited at Mano the latter part of last week.

Mano News: Miss Ona Holman who has typhoid fever is some better at this writing.

Rocky Comfort News: Az McCary, an old resident of this place, who now lived in Fairview, was in Rocky Monday and while here sold his property to Hugh Schell of near Powell, independent.

Rocky Comfort News: Otto Duncan and Ernie Kelly who purchased the Wheaton Hardware will take charge of same soon.

Washburn Prairie News: Mrs. R. T. Raines spent the latter part of last week at the home of her son, James Raines, of Horner, on account of the illness of his children.

Washburn Prairie News: Chas Thomas of Monett and daughter, Mrs. Hugh Brixey, and children of Cassville spent Wednesday night and Thursday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Merton Meador.

Washburn News: Mrs. Maud Houston and two little daughters, Margaret and Nadine, returned to their home near Purdy Saturday.

Arnhart News: Robert and Cecil Wilson of Cato passed through our midst Sunday enroute to Purdy to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Clevenger.

Seligman News: Doc Arnold is again mixing with old friends in these parts after an absence of several years.

Leann News: Luther Thomas moved into his new house Friday and gave a social at night. Everyone present reported a nice time.

Leann News: Born to, since our last writing, Frank Nivens and wife, a son, George Turner and wife a daughter, Virgil Wilhite and wife a daughter.

Union Valley News: Grant Eden and S. L. lady attended the Packwood sale on Shoal Creek Saturday.

Union Valley News: J. W. Still and wife of near Cassville spent Saturday night and Sunday with the latter's parents Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cole.

Union Valley News: Mrs. Doshia Leonard is on the sick list.

George Book of Viola will leave February 15 for Boise Valley, Idaho to make his future home. Mr. Book has spent several years in Idaho and thinks opportunities better there than in the Ozarks. Crane Chronicle.

Monroe, little son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Black, is doing nicely after a few days illness from the smallpox. Fred, in order to be down town at his work, has been staying with his father and desires the public to feel the danger in his being out.

E. A. Haygood of Washburn was a visitor in Cassville Saturday.

Jesse Evans of Elsey, Stone County, visited Sunday his father, B. L. Evans, and sister, Mrs. W. H. Martin.

Mrs. R. M. Barrett of Black Oak, Ark., arrived Saturday to be at the bedside of the infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Freeze that has been dangerously sick. Mrs. Barrett is a sister of Mrs. Freeze.

Arch and J. B. Hessee were called to Statford Friday evening to attend their brother, Marshall, who is reported dangerously sick.

Mrs. Caroline Jane Porter died Monday night at the home of hers on, George Porter, in the home of her son, George Porter, in the Pasley locality.  [Click here to read]

Within the past week only one new case of smallpox was developed in Cassville. Physicians state the time for new cases to developed has almost passed, and with the precautions now enforced but few new cases are expected.

Mrs. Williams and daughter Miss May, of Purdy passed there Monett Saturday evening on their way to Neosho to attend the funeral of Mrs. Williams' sister who died at Ft. Worth, Tex., and was taken there for burial. Monett Times

D. R. Clutter of Butterfield was placed under arrest Monday on a charge of a serious nature. He was lodged in the county jail until preliminary hearing which will be held before Justice of the Peace O'Dwyer at Monett Tuesday.

Adam Davidson who for the past few months has been draughtman for the Ingalls Stone Co., at the local quarry, has gone to Bedford, Ind., to remain.

Rocky Comfort News: J. H. Miller and his wife and daughter of Montezuma, Kan., are visiting at the home of C. H. Montgomery.

Mineral Springs News: Charlie Riddle closed a successful term of school Friday at Accident.

Mineral Springs News: Lowell, son of Morgan Pannell, has been suffering with severe hoarseness and croup since Friday night.

Mineral Springs News: Mrs. W. P. Timmons' and Mrs. Erwin, have been enjoying a weeks' visit with their sister from Indiana whom they had not seen for thirty years.

Munsey News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Jean Thomas, last week, a boy.

Butterfield News: John Henley has started up another barber shop in Butterfield.

New Site News: Fay Carlin of Joplin is visiting his father who has been quite sick with lagrippe. He is better at this writing and so is his wife.

New Site News: Miss Myrtle Anderson of Marionville is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Minerva Carlin.

Washburn News: Elijah Burnett lost a valuable mare with blind staggers Saturday.

Washburn News: Carl Myers visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. A. Myers, here last week. He has been working in Arkansas for some time.

Washburn News: We were glad to see Mrs. Abbey Moffatt at church Sunday. She is feeble but gets around well for one of her age.

Washburn News: The ladies of the crochet club gave Miss Maud Woodruff a pleasant surprise Monday it being her birthday. Dinner was served by the club, each member taking part. All present spent a very enjoyable day.

Shell Knob News: Isaac Epperly closed a successful term of school at the Brock school house last Friday by an entertainment at night which was enjoyed by those present. His enrollment was about 70 and average attended about 50.

New Salem News: Word was recently been received from T. L. Trimble's daughter, Mrs. Parolee Jones, of Washington, stating that they were the proud parents of a son at their home. Grandpa Trimble wears a smile that won't come off.

Munsey News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Jean Thomas, last week, a boy.

Munsey News: Robert Jagears of Cassville has moved back in our neighborhood.

Attorney F. P. Sitzer filed Wednesday at $10,000 damage suit in Barry County circuit against the Frisco for S. H. Long who claims to have received injuries at Exeter while stepping from a passenger train.

Mrs. Dabbs and son Clyde, of Seligman, were here Monday on probate court business.

Lyfus Lamb spent Sunday in Purdy.

Mrs. D. H. Manley went to Kansas City last week to attend her mother, who is very sick with pneumonia.

Miss Grace Short is assisting in the post office.

Mrs. Lenna Powers of Sapulpa, Okla., has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Galloway, and family.

Night Watchman, R. A. Gardner, of Monett was bound over Friday, to circuit court on the charge of murder in the second degree.   [Click here to read] 

Mrs. J. B. Stark and daughter, east of town, left Sunday evening for Mystic, Ia., to be at the bedside of Mrs. Stark's father, Wm. Miner, who is dangerously sick of pneumonia. Mrs. Stark reports her father's age about 95 years and has had but little sickness during his life.

Willow Brook News: Saturday, February 6, closed a six months term of school at this place. The morning was spent in regular recognitions. At the noon a bountiful dinner was spread by the good ladies of Willow Brook. At 1:00 o'clock the Jackson string band silenced the well filed house. An interesting program of songs, declarations and dialogues by pupils and patrons consumed the time until 4 p.m. Miss Carrie Stockton has taught us a good school. She is a young teacher that is making good.

Cedar Bluff News: Thomas Jackson who has been on the sick list is improving.

Washburn News: Several passed through here Monday from near Seligman enroute to Exeter to attend the funeral of C. Arnold who died Sunday at the home four miles north of town of pneumonia. We extend sympathy to the bereaved family.

Washburn News: The remains of Bud Williams were shipped here today Tuesday for burial from LaHarpe, Kan., where he died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Fine. He was an old resident of Barry County and had been in feeble health for some time. He leaves a wife and several children to mourn his loss. He will be buried at the Hickman Cemetery south of town.

Washburn News: Mr. and Mrs. Otis Hayes of Avoca, Ark., were the guests of the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Thomas.

Washburn News: Little Grover Cargile is very low with stomach trouble. He is the four months old babe of Floy and Clara Cargile.

Washburn News: Miss Thornhill of Purdy is visiting her uncle, Ed Kemp, and family this week.

Union Valley News: Clarence Pulley spent last week with his sister, Mrs. L. R. Smith and family.

Union Valley News: Mrs. Bridgman of Exeter visited last week with her daughter, Mrs. Emma Eden.

New Salem News: We understand Isom Skelton and family of Monett have moved into the residence with Carter Skelton and family of this place.

Rock Creek News: The youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. James Holman is reported sick at this writing.

Shell Knob News: Mrs. C. H. Johnson has been confined to her bed,  for two weeks.

Seligman News: Mrs. Plummer of Ava, Mo., is visiting her father, Squire Reed. Mr. Reed has been a citizen of Barry County all his life. [Research Note: This is George Reed and Mrs. Plummer is Mary Frances Reed, wife of Thomas Lorenzo Plummer.]

Pasley News: Orville Reynolds and wife returned home last week from Illinois where they have been visiting, Mrs. Reynolds' parents.

Colmore S. Arnold, an excellent citizen, and a successful farmer, died Saturday night, February 13, 1915, at his home in the Vanzandt locality. [Click here to read]

David W. Loftin, letter carrier, on the Star route from Cassville, to Hailey and Cato, died very suddenly at Henry Scroggin's home about one mile west of Mineral Springs, Monday evening about five o'clock. [Click here to read]

New Salem News: Aunt Mary Pendergraft is spending this week with her sister, Mrs. Harriet Edens of Rock Springs, who is quite sick.

Washburn News: Mrs. E. A. Burnett and daughter, Amanda, visited from Friday until Sunday at the home of the former's brother, J. Weston, near Beaver.

Washburn News: Mrs. J. A. Frost spent Saturday and Sunday with here son, K. A. Frost, and wife of Rogers, Ark.

Washburn News: P. S. Myers and son, Floy, have gone to Webb City with a view to locating.

Seligman News: G. W. Stapleton is in very bad shape. He is suffering from a large carbuncle on his neck.

Seligman News: A son of Sam Jones, about six years of age, who was making his home with Riley Young, died suddenly Sunday night. He had been bothered with an abscess in his head but his conditions were not thought to be serious.

Wheaton News: R. P. Metcalf of Shade, Ky., has moved onto J. M. Jones' farm near the Clark School house.

Mano News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Shrum, Feb 10, a boy. Mother and babe are doing nicely.

Mano News: E. C. Shaffer and wife spent Monday with the latter's father, F. M. Smallwood.

Union Valley News: John Sooter and wife of near Purdy spent Monday and Tuesday with Grant Eden.

The three bandits, Thomas McCall, William Barry and Harry Jackson, who robbed a bank at Duneweg, Wednesday of last week of $1,800.50, and were captured within an hour afterward, pleaded guilty in the Jasper County circuit court Saturday. Their sentence was deferred. It is said that McCall is wanted at Mountain Home, Ark., where he recently robbed a bank and killed a member of the posse.

A four year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Linn who lived in McDonald township was drowned in Flat Creek, Wednesday afternoon of last week. At the time when the sad incident occurred Mrs. Linn was at the creek gathering water cress, it is reported. She left the home with the child in the care of other members of the family. During her absence the child went to the creek but at different place than where the mother was located. The child's body was not found until about eight o'clock that night. Burial took place Friday at the Stubblefield Cemetery.

Attorney Illus M. Lee of Kansas City came in Monday to visit his father who for several months has been in very poor health.

A barn and all its contents owned by Bud Day near Washburn burned Wednesday night of last week. The property carried $800. insurance with Manley Ins. Agency of this city.

Monroe Roller has changed his address from Quay, Ida., to Purdy.

Chas. Vaughn of Monett visited relatives north of town the later part of last  week.

Mrs. Cline, teacher in the Cassville school retuned Sunday from a visit with relatives at Goshen, Ark.

Roscoe Cox came in Saturday from near Colorado Springs. He and a brother, Harry, have homesteaded 640 acres of lane in Colorado.

Eagle Rock News: Fines Ball lost one of his yearling colts last week. Some say the cause was blind staggers.

Eagle Rock News: There is some talk of Walter Young of Cassville moving back on the River on Charley Easley's place.

Eagle Rock News: Charley Skelton and Dora Ball were quietly married at the home of the bride. Sunday of last week. We all wish them a long and happy life.

Washburn News: Cluria Henbest and wife and little son, Joseph, of Exeter, spent Saturday and Sunday with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Henbest.

Washburn News: Roger Davis and Duncan Northcutt attended the closing of Miss Grace Journey's school last Thursday at Trent Creek.

Washburn News: Bert Hodge of Deering, Kan., came in Saturday to visit his parents, Rev. P. H. Hodge and wife.

Purdy News: Mrs. Rachel Clarke of Longton, Kan., returned to her home Sunday after a two week's visit with relatives. She had been called to the funeral of her brother, H. M. Hemphill, held here Feb 16th.

New Site News: John Banks is repairing the old Haddock house expecting to have a family to occupy it and to help work on the farm. Carroll Wimsatt talks of moving there. [Research Note: This is Charles Haddock, Jr.'s old home place, located near New Site Cemetery, in the Hudson bottoms.]

New Site News: Mrs. Ida Banks an son, Owen, of Washburn Prairie who where called here last week on account of the sickness of Mrs. Minnie Wormington have returned home. Mrs. Wormington had congestion of the lungs but is better.

New Site News: Pleas Carlin has gone to repair the fence around his pasture in the hills preparatory to taking his stock there for the summer.

New Site News: Washington Montgomery is having a large concrete tank put in near his barn and will pipe the water from the mill to it.

New Site News: Arthur Higgins has lost several head of cattle, one being a fresh milch cow.

Washburn Prairie News: Will Miller of Pea Ridge, Ark., has spent the past week at the home of his son, Dave, and with other relatives here.

Washburn Prairie News: Mrs. Ida Banks was called to Monett last Monday on account of the serious illness of a sister. She was accompanied by her son, Ona.  [Research Note: Ida Higgins Banks was a sister of Minnie Higgins Montgomery. Minnie's husband was Washington Montgomery. Ida was married to George Denver Banks, son of John Henry and Rachel [Haddock) Banks.]

Forest Grove News: Harve Craig has moved on the farm he bought of Mr. Huffer.

Forest Grove News: About 75 of the relatives and friends of the family of J. W. Huffer gave them a farewell dinner, Feb 21. They left this week for Oklahoma where they expect to make their future home. A very enjoyable time was spent by all. They take the best wishes of all with them.

Flat Creek News: Rev. Cottrell closed a successful meeting at the Wolley Creek School house Sunday night Feb 21, with 28 additions. This was the best meeting we have had for a long time.

Flat Creek News: We were sorry to hear of the death of Edd Edwards. To the bereaved we extend our heartfelt sympathy in their hour of grief.

Union Valley News: Albert Sass and wife of near Purdy, spent Thursday and Friday of last week at Grant Edens and Dan Leonard's.

New Salem News: Robert Roller went to Seligman on Wednesday of last week after a monument to erect at the grave of M. yearns.

New Salem News: Bill Poe and family spent from Tuesday to Friday of last week with his brother-in-law, Jake Cline, and family of Sugar Creek.

New Salem News: Floyd Roller has recently bought 30 acres of land from his brother, George. The land is in orchard. He has declared war against insects and buts and has purchased an engine spry to use against them.

Cedar Bluff News: B. H. Truhitte closed a successful term of school at Cedar Bluff Friday. The forenoon was spent in regular school work. At noon the patrons gathered and set a nice dinner, which everyone enjoyed. The afternoon was spent in recitations and talks by the patrons.

Seligman News: O. A. Arnold and family visited in Exeter the last of the week.

Seligman News: J.D. Birkes has moved to town. Mr. Birkes has lived on a farm south of town.

Purdy News: Ed Shipman who is blind has ordered a set of volumes, 8 in number, which is the complete Bible. He understands the system and will be able to read Gods' word for himself on their arrival.

Purdy News: J. P. McClure, our Frisco agent, was called to Exeter last Friday to the bedside of his mother who died later. Funeral services were conducted Sunday by Rev. Love. We extend our sympathy in this sad hour.

Wayne News: Jim Wilkerson, of this place has sold out and is going to Butterfield to reside. We are sorry to lose them as they are good neighbors.

Wayne News: Aunt Nerva Walden is visiting Geo. Burdine and family.

Wayne News: Grandma Erwin is visiting her son, Josh Erwin, this week.

Sunnyside News: Ernest Hooker was so proud of the fine daughter who arrived on Feb the 25th that he got up the next morning and put his overalls on front side behind and started to the barn to feed when Bill Roller came past and said he couldn't tell whether Ernest was going or coming.

Rock Creek News: Sam Munday and sister, Minnie, spent Monday night with relatives on the Flat Woods.

Rock Creek News: John Wisdom is visiting Uncle Bill Edie. Mr. Wisdom has been in Kansas for the past two years. He is thinking of locating near Butterfield.

Homer Drinkwater of near Exeter was arrested by Sheriff Brixey last week, charge with adultery. He gave bond before Squire Parmley of Butterfield for his appearance at circuit court.

Mrs. Walter Beaver of Seligman has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Talman, who accompanied her daughter, home Sunday evening.

Mrs. Finis Puett of Shoal Creek died, Monday morning, at an early hour. Interment was made at the Chitwood Cemetery, Monday afternoon. 

Chas. Lindsay was tried in our circuit court this week and acquitted by the jury on the charge of manslaughter of the fourth degree for the killing of his brother, Jay Lindsay, with a shot-gun on the Kirk farm about five miles north of Neosho on the afternoon of January 18. Miner & Mechanic.
