Washburn News: M. McGlothlin has bought the blacksmith shop owned by Dr. Northcutt and is setting it up on his own lot he purchased recently from J. B. Hurst.

Butterfield News: J. C. Critchfield and family who moved to this part of the country from Kansas last winter have moved to the territory.

Osa News: J. A. Williams of Scholten made a big deal in which he bought Bud Wise's farm of this place. He paid $5,750 for it.

Osa News: Dr. McCoy reports a 10 pound girl at Will Turner's.

Butterfield News: Sam Dixon of Stroud, O. T. [Osage Territory], was called here by the sickness and death of his mother, who died Wednesday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. P. McPhail.

Gunter News: Died Martha Dickson at D. P. McPhail, Wednesday, Jan 18. The remains were interred it the Arnhart cemetery Saturday. Her son, Sam and son-in-law arrived from Oklahoma, Friday night.

Corinth News: Elmer Smith of Christian County was visiting his uncle, E. D. Smith and other relatives in this neighborhood. He returned home Saturday.

Gunter News: Married at the residence of Wm. Clark, Sunday evening, Miss Cordelia Clark and Will Henley. Rev. N. M. Whittington spoke the words that made them man and wife.

Washburn News: Jamie Mooney is build a new house on the land he bought from Dr. Northcutt. [Research Note: This is James Harvey Mooney who married Ella Pease. In 1900, they had one child, Loyd Patrick Mooney who was born Sept 20, 1900.]

New Site News: The infant son of A. T. Higgins and wife died Wednesday, Jan 23, and was buried at New Site the 24. Arthur Higgins, who has been working in the territory returned home Thursday night in answer to a telegram announcing his brother's death, but did not get her in time for the funeral. [A. T. Higgins was married to Martha Mahala Montgomery. They had a child who was born in 1901 and who was buried in 1901, but there is no given name on the marker at New Site.]

Forest Grove News: J. W. Ennes was called near Butterfield where he united August Rausch of Pierce City and Miss Maude Utter of Butterfield. The happy couple will go to Mr. Rausch's home near Pierce city, where they will make their future home and welcome a visit from their many friends.

Rock Springs News: The remains of Mr. S. H. W. Holmes who interred in the Frost Cemetery, Sunday. The funeral was conducted by the Masons. He died at Fair Play, MO, Feb. 1.

Oscar Clark, Deceased, was born September 19, 1880, on Little Flat near the Henderson Mill. He remained in Barry County until 1892 when he went to Texas to live and there made a profession of religion and became a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. He had been at school at Mt. Gove since last September and intended to continue his course of study in the Marionville College Institute. He was to state to Marionville on Feb 12 on which day he was taken sick at A. J. Dodd's 5 miles Northwest of McDowell where he died Feb 27 at 7 o'clock. [Some of he remainder is unreadable, but it states that his parents lived in Christian County, MO.]

Eagle Rock News: The wedding bells for Mr. Hall and Mrs. Smith was postponed.

Eagle Rock News: Calvin Skelton is having a well drilled on his farm.

Lone Elm News: Ellet Hudson, age 40 years, who died Feb 27, 1901, left a wife and seven children and his aged parents to mourn his loss.

Fairview News: Fred Williamson visited in this neighborhood Sunday.

Dale News: J. D. Long's friends and relatives met Sunday and gave him quite a surprise it being his 47th birthday. [Research Note: John Dake Long was born March 3, 1854 an died August 3, 1930. He was a son of John Dake & Lavina (Bellah) Long.]

Butterfield News: Joe England and wife have taken up their abode on his new homestead in Stone County near James River.

Osa News: James McCullah died at his home place Thursday at 5:35 o'clock. The deceased was one of her early settlers of this part of the country and ex-representative of Stone County. He was nearing his three score and twelve years: Mr. McCollah was probably the best poled men in this section of the country on government affairs and many a pleasant hour has been spent with him by his host of friendly talking of the money questions and the laboring class of people. Forest Grove News: Grandma Lieutrill, who lives on Mr. Davis' place is nearly blind.

Washburn News: Born to Mr. A. J. and Cassie Maine, a large fine boy, but he is not so old at A. J. quite, but looks democratic. [Doesn't seem to make sense. Copy is not very good.]

Flat Creek News: Born to Mrs. John Clark, a fine baby boy, on the morning of the 12 inst. We are sorry to say that John left his wife some time ago.

Flat Creek News: There was a genuine surprise birthday dinner at Uncle John Baize's on the 6th. There were many friends and relatives in attendance who did ample justice to the many good things for dinner. We wish Uncle John the return of many happy birthdays.

Flat Creek: Frank Beaver's little boy got very badly burned last week. The child is about 4 years old. The mother had gone to get water when the child began playing with  the fire. His clothes caught fire and burned his legs and feet very badly.

Butterfield News: Jake E. England, living one mile southeast of town, lost his barn, 2 tons of hay, 100 bushels of corn, 1 wagon and one hours the night of the storm by lighting setting it on fire.

Viola News: James W. Lee, who has been in the Philippines for two years with his regiment, is expected home

Washburn News:  Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Berryhill lost their babe last Sunday from whooping cough. It was buried in the Sulherd Cemetery. [Research Note: This cemetery was called Old Washburn Cemetery in more recent years. A rock quarry moved in near it and a lot of the graves were moved out. But this baby's grave and Clara Elizabeth (Hancock) Berryhill's graves are still there. There may be as many as 5 or 6 more left there too, but most are unmarked. There is a stone on the ground that reads John Burks.]

Hailey News: Uncle D. Hudson's friends and relatives wt him a nice dinner on the 30th, being his birthday. He is 83 years old.

Eagle Rock News: Don Skelton has sold his farm near the Munsey school house and his son Henry, who has been living on it has moved down to this place.

New Site News: The death of Rev. S. H. Hardy was quite a shock to the people at New site, as he was once the pastor of the church and had many warm friends here.

Oak Ridge News: Mrs. Kirk, who had been sick for some time, died Wednesday of last week. Deceased left five children and a host of friends and relatives. Funeral services held Thursday at Oak Ridge and burial in, cemetery near by.

Washburn News: Born to Mrs. W. B. Fielding, a boy, Saturday the 4th. Boy and mother doing well.

Madry News: Sarah Wheat, wife of George Wheat, died May 24, of lung fever. The remains were laid to rest in the Aurora cemetery Friday evening. The bereaved family have our sympathy.

Corinth News: Mrs. Tom Huff and Dema Feltor of Galena, Kans., are visiting their father John Huff.

Washburn Prairie News: Married, Sunday at the home of the bride, Miss Martha McCollum to Mr. John Burns, H. J. Hood officiating.

Washburn Prairie News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. George Longley, Sunday, a fine girl.

Shady Grove News: Last Friday a large blacksnake crept into Charley Smith's house and got into the cupboard and crawled through two teacup handles and started to carry the cups away.

Abstract of Obituary: Died at her home near Golden, May 26, 1901, Sister Stiles, wife of E. E. Stiles, age 45 years, 4 months, 26 days. She leaves a husband and six children to mourn her loss.  Services were held at her home and after the remains were conveyed to the Vina Cemetery and laid to rest. [Obituary gives her name as Sister.]

Gunter News: Mr. Whittington received a letter from his nephew who has just arrived from the Philippines.

Gunter News: Mrs. Rose Shull visited relatives and friends in the vicinity Saturday and Sunday.

Lookout Mountain News: Mr. and Mrs. I. R. Godfrey of Enid, Oklahoma, who had been visiting the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kerr, returned home last Friday.

Corinth News: Sunday, Deacons Charles Van Zandt and George Porter were ordained, Revs. Morgan and Brock assisted at the ordination.

J. A. Pease, whose building at Washburn was slightly damaged by the recent fire, was instructed by the adjustors to wave it repaired and send to the bill to the insurance companies.

W. S. Jordan of Jiminez, Mexico, was in the city Saturday enroute to his home. His wife, formerly Miss Maud Trimm is visiting in Texas. Mr. Jordan is manager for three large flouring mills in Mexico.

Fred Melton, who went to Afton, I. T. to start a paper, gave up the venture. He has secured a position at South McAllister, Indian Territory.

Mrs. Carrie Smith has moved from Mineral Springs and has placed her piano at the home of James Henly between the Baptist and Union Churches where she will give lessons during he summer.

A birthday surprise was given Mrs. Susan Emmerson, Friday, it being her 69th birthday. There was a large number of friends present to enjoy the occasion.

Dog Hollow News: Born to Cas and Mary Roberts, a big eight pound girl.

Ash News: Born to H. and L. Dent, a fine boy. Pa wears a broad smile.

Ash News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Martin, a big girl. Mother and bade doing well.

Est. James A. McCullah, dec'd. Demand of Charles P. Hale for $721.02 allowed in 5th class. Demand of Granville Smith for $825 in same class.

Court adjourned until Monday, June 8th.

Butterfield News: Uncle William Ferguson is building him a  new house on Barry City site north of the depot.

Mano News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Burton, Friday of last week, a fine 10 pound girl. Mother and girl getting along fine which causes Sherman to wear a big broad smile.

Mano News: Bob Burton says they call him pa. for it is a fine girl, two weeks old. Mother and babe getting along fine.

Mano News: Fred Williamson and Bob Dummitt paid Cassville a visit Monday. [Dummit]

Wednesday, June 19, was the 53rd anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Marshall, parents of Mrs. W. I. I. Morrow, and in order to commemorate thee same. Mrs. Morrow planned a surprise dinner on the old folks. The surprise was complete but the dinner was the best part of all. Those present were Rev. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Willis, Mrs. J. H. Lowery, Mrs. Morrow, Misses Effie Burris and Frona Morrow. Purdy News.
