Personal and Local News: Mrs. Helen Hobbs has returned home from an extended visit with her sister, Mrs. Chas. Martin, in Kansas City.

Cross Hollows News: Seigle Riddle and daughter, Miss Rachel, went to Fairview, last week. He went to help his brother-in-law build a house at that place.

Osa News: Mr. and Mrs. Harson Hemphill went to their daughter's Mrs. Clarence Browning, whose baby has the fever and Grandma Browning had a stroke of paralysis. They don't think she will recover.

New Salem News: Miss Wanda Bennett visited her cousin, Miss Maude Sons, Saturday night and Sunday and attended the entertainment at Rock Springs.

New Salem News: Sevier Roller and daughter, Oner, Dallas Summey and sister, Dema, and Misses Eunice and Trixie Hall, went fishing on Roaring River Sunday.

Leann News: The little girl of Josh Allman, also the little girl of George Turner that was dangerously ill is reported much better.

Butterfield News: Horace Gray has moved to Washburn, Ora Birks to the property vacated by Gray and Harrison Gurley occupies the farm sold him by Mr. Birks. We can recommend Mr. and Mrs. Gray to the people of Washburn as being worthy of their acquaintance, respect and confidence. We regret losing them but wish them success and happiness in their new home.

Butterfield News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Ora Birkes, Monday, a son.

Gunter News: Mrs. Golden visited home folks Sunday. She has been staying with her daughter, Mrs. Smith, during her recent illness.

New Site News: Miss Opal Carlin and Cassie Ethridge attended the funeral of Mrs. C.A. Carlin and visited with relatives a few days last week. They returned to their home in Fairview Sunday.

New Site News: Miss Dona Wormington is home from an extended visit with her brother, Asa Wormington, who now lives in Bolivar.

New Site News: Uncle Marsh Carlin is gradually failing, very low at this writing.

Mrs. Minerva Carlin died, Thursday evening at 7:30 o'clock, March 9, 1916, of dropsy, at the age of 94 years.  [Should be about 60 years old. They were married October 9, 1892 in Barry County, MO.]  [Click here to read]

Jonathan T. Brooks, one of Barry County's old and leading school men died of pneumonia at his home northeast of Cassville 7 1/2 miles, Friday night at 9:10 o'clock, a the age of 62 years.  [Click here to read]

Personal and Local News: Mrs. Laura House of Utah is visiting her father, Wm. Bridges.

Personal and Local News: Chas. Ryan is farming the old Lee farm just south of Cassville, this year.

Personal and Local News: Rollin Ingram of Monett spent the first of the week with his brother, Dr. J. S. Ingram. Rollin is attending a dental college at Kansas City and is at home for a week's vacation.

Personal and Local News: Judge and Mrs. R. H. Elam of Eagle Rock went to Springfield Sunday. Mrs. Elam is in a hospital there where an operation for tumor was to have been performed, Tuesday. Dr. S. W. Chandler went to Springfield, Tuesday, to assist with the operation. Mrs. Elam has been suffering for some time and a few weeks ago came to Cassville and remained a week for treatment.

Personal and Local News: C. W. Higganbotham has been confined to his home for the past three weeks. His age and the severe attack of lagrippe, which he had early in the winter, make his recovery very slow.

Personal and Local News: Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Erwin, Saturday, March 18, a son.

Personal and Local News: John Lathim of Mano visited his daughter, Mrs. James Mitchell and son, Will, in this city, Friday night and Saturday.

Personal and Local News: The Washburn School, Prof. G. A. Crane, Principal, closed Friday.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. Gladys Buzzetti of New Ulm, Minn., arrived the first of last week for a visit with her mother, Mrs. J. T. Books, north of town.

Personal and Local News: In the better baby contest held recently at Williams, Arizona, Ellen Elizabeth Ramey, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ramey, was awarded first prize. Mr. and Mrs. Ramey formerly lived in this county.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. L. J. Bennett and Miss Zettie Edens of Joplin have been visiting their parents Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Edens, this week.

Personal and Local News: Stanley, little son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Edens south of town, has been very sick with a throat trouble.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. Richardson, mother of Mrs. W. C. Robertson, has been dangerously ill at her home in Monett. Mrs. Robertson spent a part of last week with her mother who is thought to be much improved.

New Salem News: Floyd Roller left Sunday morning for St. Joseph, he being a delegate sent from Sugar Creek, township to the convention.

Forest Grove News: Mrs. Clarence Cranford, a baby of Clever, are visiting her parents, J. W. Sharp and wife.

Arnhart News: The infant babe of James McCracken, was laid to rest March 19, in the Arnhart Cemetery. To the bereaved we extend heartfelt sympathy.

Rocky Comfort News: Rev. Carlin of Fairview filled his regular appointment at the Baptist Church Sunday.

Rocky Comfort News: Rufus Bicking has begun the erection of a new residence on a tract in the south part of town.

High Point News: The grist mill near the Oakley Store, which has been closed for some time on account of damage received from high waters, Mr. Bowers was repairing last week and we hope he will soon be able to resume operation.

Flat Creek News: Little Mildred Bowman is able to be up now.

Seligman News: Mrs. M. A. McCollum was called to Fairview the last of the week on account of the sickness of her daughter, Etta Major.

Victory News: We were sorry to chronicle the death of our dear friend, Wesley Hoenshell. Grandpa was 72 years old and was loved by all who knew him. To know him was to love him. When we needed advice Grandpa always could give it to us. He was assistant superintendent of our Sunday School. He will be missed by the entire neighborhood, but fiends mourn not, our loss means his gain.

Died - Margaret Rullson, who was born Nov 14, 1822, at Charleston, N.Y. She was married to Wm. Guiles at the age of 15 at Charleston, N. Y.  [Click here to read]

Bert Riggins, a former Barry County boy, who was a fright conductor running out of Winslow, Ariz., was killed in a wreck Friday, of last week. His body was prepared for burial and shipped to Exeter, arriving there the first of the week.  [Click here to read]

Personal and Local News: Mrs. Eliza Browning of Exeter has been appointed by Judge Landis as curator of the estates of James L., Vina J., Charles and George R. Browning, whose ages are respectively 19, 17, 16, and 10 years.

Personal and Local News: Mr. and Mrs. J. S. McQueen and Mrs. W. W. Hailey of Hailey were called to Wheaton, Thursday by the dangerous illness of Frank Lambert.

Personal and Local News: J. B. W. Bennington arrived Friday for a visit with his son, F. W. Bennington. For the past four years his home has been in Florida but he has spent the inter at Hampton, Va. He is looking well and is in general good health.

Personal and Local News: Stanley, little two year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Eden south of this city 2 1/2 miles, died March 22, of throat trouble. Funeral services were held Thursday and the little body laid to rest in the Corinth Cemetery. [Edens]

Personal and Local News: Mrs. Bertha Shipman is visiting her aunt, Mrs. C. H. Hadley.

McDowell News: Dr. Robertson is attending his mother, at his brother Joe's, near Purdy. She is very ill.

Sunnyside News: Mrs. Jennie Smith and little daughter, Modena, of Springfield are visiting relatives here. They will soon leave for Bakersfield, California.

Roaring River News: David Talbert and wife, of near Cassville, spent Sunday on their ranch.

Roaring River News: Mrs. John Calhoun is enjoying a visit from her sister, Bonnie, of Vinita, Okla.

Mineral Springs News: P. M. Riddle and son, Charlie, and Clyde Loftin made a business trip to Arkansas Friday.

Purdy News: Born to Erskin Leonard and wife, March 27th, a son.

Purdy News: Otte Teel and wife of Oklahoma visited his brother, George and family last week.

Purdy News: The stork caught J. L. Gillaspy away from home and left twins at this home last Friday, a son and a daughter. Both are doing nicely.

Purdy News: Mrs. Sarah Wilson, wife of Zim Wilson, of Purdy, died at her home at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, March 26. Funeral was conducted by her pastor, Eld. G. S. Yarborough, Monday at the Christian Church and interment made in Purdy Cemetery.  She leaves the husband and one daughter besides brothers, sisters, father and mother and a host of friends. She had been in poor health since making a trip through Oklahoma last fall and had just recently had measles, which developed into pneumonia.  

Purdy News: Mrs. Mosby and daughter, Miss Ruth, and Miss Kate Mitchell were Springfield visitors Saturday and Sunday.

Purdy News: Mrs. Georgia Crane and Miss Alta Jayne of Washburn are visiting their aunt, Mrs. M. Cox, this week.

Purdy News: Mrs. Sam Harris, who has been spending the winter in Kentucky, returned to her home Sunday much improved in health.

Cedar Bluff News: We are sorry to hear of Ed Jackson of McDowell having pneumonia.

Seligman News: We have a new Radium Spring east of town. They are shipping lots of water. 

Pleasant Ridge News: Rev. Onas Greenway preached at the school house Saturday night and Sunday. He will preach again the fourth Sunday in April.

Butterfield News: D. A. Cowherd received a long distance message Saturday stating that his father had died and funeral services would be held at Okmulgee, Okla., Sunday. He departed on the evening train to attend the funeral

Lone Elm News: Charlie Huse of Clio happened to a very severe accident. He was a riding a horse which fell on him breaking one of his limbs.

New Site News: Mrs. Samantha Hudson of Arkansas is visiting her father, Marshal Carlin, who still remains in a critical condition.

Personal and Local News: Will Storck of Purdy has been dangerously ill of pneumonia and measles. His condition is reported to be improving.

Personal and Local News: M. A. Galloway celebrated his 75th birthday Saturday. He says very few of his birthdays have been white ones as it was this year.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. Audrey Sills of Springfield has been visiting Audrey's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Sills, at Roaring River spring and Cassville relatives.

Personal and Local News: The case of State vs. P. S. Meyers, charged with perjury in connection with making a bond for his son, was brought up Monday in S. R. Reynolds' court.  The case was dismissed by the prosecuting attorney.

Personal and Local News: County Physician Bailey reports the smallpox at Exeter. There is said to be three families at Purdy or near there who also have smallpox.

New Salem News: Did you ever see a 3 or 4 inch snow on the 8th of April? We sure did have that much snow in this part. Didn't look much like planting corn.

Personal and Local News: Chas. Edens of Seligman was here Monday to visit his mother, Mrs. J. J. Edens.

Personal and Local News: J. L. Hensley of Mt. Vernon came over last week to visit his daughter, Mrs. Emma VanHook. He says that the wheat about Mt. Vernon is very poor.

Personal and Local News: Mr. and Mrs. Albert Townsend and little son, Jeff, of Duenweg came over Sunday to visit Mrs. Townsend's mother, Mrs. J. J. Edens, who has been suffering from injuries received in a fall last week.

Personal and Local News: Judge R. H. Elam motored to Springfield last week and brought Mrs. Elam home Friday. She had been in Springfield for three weeks at a hospital where she had under gone an operation. She is rapidly recovering.

Personal and Local News: Charles Talbert of Aurora, formerly of this city, was adjudged insane by the county court at Mt. Vernon at its session last week. He has been taken tot eh asylum at Nevada for treatment.

Personal and Local News: Leonard Hadley of Ardmore, Okla., a brother of C. H. Hadley of this city, has made a settlement with the railroad company for the injuries received last summer at the explosion of an oil tank on the tracks near the station in which Mr. Hadley worked. The injuries have left him a cripple for life. Settlement was made for $8,500, a part of which was paid.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. W. W. Munday of Mano lately received a letter from her son, Prof. Will Joseph, of Buffalo, Wyoming. Will has been again elected superintendent of the Buffalo City Schools at a salary or $1,600 for a nine months term. He is to be one of the teachers during the summer term at the Wyoming State University. Will says that he has a new Overland car. He sends his kindest regards to his old Barry County friends. We do not see why he could not make a trip to Missouri this summer in that new car.

Personal and Local News: Claud Hessee has traded his residence property to Abe Leonard for the Leonard farm near Exeter. Mr. Leonard wanted the Hessee property for a home. Mr. Hessee has one of the finest building lots in Cassville just north of the Mrs. Hobbs residence on which he may decide to build a modern home.

Personal and Local News: Nadine, little three year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Craig, northeast of Cassville, died about 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon of spinal meningitis. The funeral was held Wednesday and interment made at the Sparks Cemetery.

Personal and Local News: Raymond Stubblefield, little three year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Loren Stubblefield turned over a tea kettle of boiling water on himself, Friday at their home northwest of Exeter which resulted in a serious burning of the lower limbs. Dr. S. W. Chandler was called to treat the burn and found the little fellow in a dangerous condition.

Personal and Local News: Jas. Whittington of Eagle Rock, a candidate for the Republican nomination for sheriff, was in this city, Monday.

Mineral Springs News: Mrs. J. C. Baker who has measles and was not expected to live is alive this morning. We hope yet for her recovery.

Victory News: John King had his sale last Thursday and they are visiting with relatives before leaving for Colorado.

Shady Grove News: Mrs. Maggie Gray of Washburn came up Sunday to be at the bedside of her father, J. F. Rudick. [Ruddick?]

Arnhart News: Floyd Miller, who has been working for T. F. Smith, left last week for Oklahoma.

Gunter News: Grandma Terry seems to be improving just a little.

New Site News: Luther Carlin of Fairview was here on business last week.

New Site News: Little Edith Fleetwood is spending this week with her grandmother, Mrs. M. Carlin.

Seligman News: Mr. and Mrs. Coward and Mr. Payne of Neosho were guests of their father-in-law, N. P. Anderson, over Easter.

Butterfield News: Mr. Ayers, who moved here from Cassville, a short time ago, died Sunday morning. He had been in poor health for sometime and had a stroke of paralysis recently from which he never rallied. Funeral services were held Monday and the remains laid to rest in Purdy cemetery.

Butterfield News: R. W. Poplin and wife spent Sunday with their daughter, Mrs. Vanhorn, at Cassville.

Sunnyside News: William Springer of near Bayless died Friday April the 21. He had been in poor health for sometime. He leaves a wife and seven children to mourn his death. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Moon. He was laid to rest in the Roller Cemetery.

Sunnyside News: A party and oyster supper was given at the home of James Still, Easter Sunday in honor of Mrs. Albert C. Ryer, good singing and music was had. Those present were Misses Veda and Viva Ridenour, Chloe Barnes, Alive and Velma Reid, Mrs. Junia Mitts, Rita Baldwin, Austin Reid, Ivy and Floyd Still, James and Sallie and Grandma and Grandpa Carden. All enjoyed a pleasant time. We believe Sallie and James to be the most popular people in our vicinity as they entertained the crowd until Monday morning on account to the rain.

East Purdy News: Mrs. Joe Lasley and son, Glenn, visited her mother, Mrs. John Roller, Monday.

Osa News: Mr. and Mrs. U. G. Hemphill visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Alsbrooks, Saturday night and Sunday.

New Salem News: Mrs. Sarah Bennett and two children spent Sunday with her sister, Mrs. Henry Sons, and family.

New Salem News: S. P. Fountain and wife visited Sunday with his brother, Calvin, and wife of Washburn.

New Salem News: Harlan Roller, wife and daughter, Lois, visited relatives, on Shoal Creek Saturday and Sunday.

Personal and Local News: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Montgomery of Monett and Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Thiele and daughter, Miss Anita and son, Tony, of Pierce City attended the commencement exercises here Tuesday night.

Personal and Local News: Sunday while stricken with grief over the death of their wife and mother, Joe Baker and children were greatly disturbed by a party of young people from Cassville who drove by the Baker home on a picnic trip. No doubt that these young people were not aware of the heartaches they thoughtlessly caused but they should avoid a repetition of this regretted occurrence by always being decorous with passing anyone's home.

Personal and Local News: Clyde Lucky of Dallas, Tex., attended the funeral of his grandmother, Mrs.  McMahan, at Exeter last week. Mrs. M. C. Luckey did not get to dome on the account of of the illness of Mr. Lucky who has been in bad health for sometime. [Both Lucky and Luckey spellings used.]

Miss Lizzie Luckey Dead:

Miss Lizzie Luckey died at her home in Exeter Sunday morning, April 23, of tuberculosis, at the age of 56 years. She has been a patient sufferer for more than a year and in poor health for many years.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. M. Smith and interment made in Maplewood Cemetery at Exeter.

She was born in Texas, Sept. 17, 1860. Her father died during the Civil War. In 1866? her mother and children moved to this state and located in Lawrence County. About the year 1886 they moved to Exeter where she had since lived. She was an excellent woman, known and beloved by the entire community in which she had made her home for thirty years. After the death of her brother, Joe Luckey, who passed away in 1914, she had made her home with her nephew, Monroe Luckey.

She leaves two brothers, M. C. Luckey, of Saragossa, Tex., and Robert Luckey, a traveling salesman whose headquarters were not long ago at Kansas City, and one sister, Mrs. Dora Lester of near Marionville.

A Departed Friend:

Miss Clara Hall, passed away at her home Tuesday, April 181, 1916, of measles.

She was 20 years old. She leaves father, mother, five brothers, four sisters, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss. She gave her heart to God about 8 months ago and had been living a faithful Christian life since. She united with the Baptist Church at Mineral Springs. She was laid to rest in the Ennis Cemetery near Forest Grove, April 19th.

She has gone to the bright home that is prepared for the good and true to dwell with Christ and the Angels.

Obituary:

Vesta Ann Baker was born Sept 3, 1849, in Barry County. Died April 22, 1916. Age 56 years, 7 months and 9 days. She was converted with the Cassville Baptist Church.

She was married to J. C. Baker, July 21, 1880. To this marriage six children were born, five living, 1 died in infancy. She was a faithful wife and mother and lived a consistent Christian life till death.

She leaves a husband, five children, one sister, two brothers, eight grandchildren, and a host of friends and relatives to mourn her death.

A week before death she called her friends and relatives and told them she was going to die. She was reconciled and anxious to go and sang and played which gave consolation to her loved ones. She died with the Christian hope and faith in her savior.

Mrs. Claud Morgan Dead:

Mrs. Claud Morgan died April 17, at her home near Racine, Newton County, following a period of ill health covering about three years.

Nannie Craig Morgan was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Craig who formerly lived northeast of this city but who moved last fall to Arkansas. She is a sister of James Craig of the Oak Ridge locality.

Mrs. Morgan was well known here where she grew to womanhood. She leaves a husband and five children, the youngest being three years old.
