***

Martha Susan Summers was the daughter of Jeremiah Summers and his wife Elizabeth Baker.  Elizabeth was the daughter of Charles Baker and his wife Mary Alford. These are among the first families to Missouri. I have several of the early generations of their history.

The Baker family was named Becker but after they Americanized their name they became Baker.

The earliest marked known grave in Randolph County, Missouri is the one of Mary, wife of Charles Baker, died 2/22/1824 age 60 years. She is buried about 3 miles west of Huntsville, MO in what was once Randolph Springs, MO.

Charles Baker and Mary Alford were married 10 Feb 1786 in Montgomery Co., VA. The Baker family came from Strausburg, Germany to Germantown in Lancaster Co., PA, then they removed to the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia. And from there they went to Randolph Co., MO.

The Alford family lived in Wythe Co., VA.

My line is in yellow highlight.

Benjamin Hancock Jr. and his wife Elizabeth Vickery were my 3rd Great Grandparents. They lived and died in Wayne Co., KY. Elizabeth was the daughter of Francis Marion and Mary (Broyles) Vickery. The Vickery family also lived in Wayne County, KY. Francis Vickery b. abt 1765, md 22 Sept 1787 Randolph County, NC to Mary Briles, dt. of Michael and Susannah Broiles.

Francis Marion Vickery was the son of John and Bethiah Vickery. John was a Rev. War Solider. He did his service in North Carolina. They lived in Randolph County, NC.

A question has arisen about the name of John Vickery's wife. So far nothing factual has come to me to document that Bethiah was or was not John's wife. One researcher writes that she thinks John Vickrey's first wife was Margaret Jenkins, but she provided nothing but hearsay to back up her claim. If you have facts to document the wife of John Vickery, please let me know. Some of the records that I have are second-handed on John Vickery so I am very willing to listen to anything factual on this issue.

Hancock Family

Rev. G. B. Hancock and wife Mary Minerva Burris are buried at Mars Hill Cemetery, Sholton, MO - near Crane, MO. Rev Hancock was a pioneer minister in Barry County, MO.

Rev. Hancock wrote a book entitled Mormonism Exposed in or about 1902. It was about the debate that he had with some Mormon leaders in Fayette, PA.  There is an original copy of the book in our family. It is signed by G. B. Hancock and was given to his daughter Clara Elizabeth (Hancock) Berryhill.

MY LIFE IS AN OPEN BOOK

Benjamin and Sarah Lane Hancock were my 4th Great Grandparents and my line goes through Benjamin Jr. and then to Golman Buford Hancock. Benjamin Hancock was a Rev. War soldier who came to KY for land.

[On his application for pension for Revolutionary War Service, George Dabney of Wayne Co., KY stated that Esquire Benjamin Hancock and William Hancock knew about his record as a soldier. He also stated that he was living in Bedford Co., VA when he entered the service. The William Hancock he was talking about was probably the William who was married to Sarah Harmon and the son of John D. Hancock, because that William was living in Wayne and would have been the approximated age that George Dabney would have been or was. George Dabney was also referenced in his application others, too, and mentioned that his father was Cornelius Dabney who had been living in Bedford Co., VA at the time of the Revolutionary War.  James Turner and the Postmaster Berry of Wayne Co., KY were both mentioned as some other people who knew about his service record, too. In the pension record for James Turner, he made reference to George Dabney in his application. George was an officer and James was a private, and in one of the files it was mentioned that George Berry was a Major. Benjamin Hancock didn't have a pension record because he had a bounty land warrant, but he was referred to as Esquire in Dabney's application.]

There are documents that tie the Wayne Co., KY Hancock family with Judith's family.]  [William and Stephen are documented brothers. Judith's husband was captured with them at Boone's Lick, and so she is thought to have been a sister to the Stephen and William.]

There are documents that tie Judith, Armager, John, and Benjamin Hancock together. The families of Armeger and Wade have documents that suggest a kinship with the Hancock families of Goochland.

He could have been a son of T. P. Mooney's or perhaps a Reed and a son of one of her step-brothers or step-father. His adoptive mother told "Jamie" on her death bed the name of his true mother and told him that she'd always loved him as a son. America Melinda P.
