She married James Calvin Means on January 04, 1877 in Barry Co., MO.  Sarah's father was killed by bushwhackers and at that same time her mother was pregnant with Sarah.

Elizabeth D. Haddock was the second wife of John L. Means and the first wife of Harrison Orville Abernathy.  In 1910, on the Federal Census, Lizzie D. was listed as age 34 and born in CA. Her husband was Harris O. Abernathy and he was given as age 32. According to the 1900 Census, Barry Co., MO, Harrison O. Abernathy was born November 1877 and Lizzie was born Dec 1976. An abstract of her obituary reads: Elizabeth D. Means was born Dec 4, 1876, and died at age 92, Dec 2, 1969 in Barry Co., MO.  Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Ida Balack of Cassville and Mrs. Lela Johnson of Pierce City, MO and one son Orville Abernathy of Pierce City. Elizabeth was the daughter of Joseph Haddock and his wife Mary Josephine Means.

Eleanor was the wife of John Montgomery. Some researchers think she might have been killed by bushwhackers. The New Site Church recorded that there were two women killed in the New Site area by bushwhachers. The Montgomery family moved to Barry Co., MO about 1839. John Montgomery served as a Justice of the Peace until his death in spring of 1847.

Monroe was the son of Mahala (Segrest) and William Montgomery, Sr. Monroe Montgomery's brother William Montgomery, Jr. was married to Julia Collins. Julia Collins was a sister Sarah (Collins) Haddock and they were the daughters of William and Elizabeth (Graham) Collins. Sarah Collins Haddock's, is thought to have been the first grave at Walnut Grove [New Site]. Joel, Sarah (Collins) Haddock's, infant son, came about the same time and he was buried about Jan or Feb of 1851. Monroe Montgomery may have been the third person who was buried at Walnut Grove [New Site] in 1851.

Mahala and William Montgomery were the parents of William Montgomery, Jr., Monroe, Washington, Jasper, Robert, Joel, Wallace, Martha Mahala, Mary, and Amanda. They are all buried at New Site. In 1860 on the Federal Population Schedules, US Census, Barry Co., MO, house #730 was William Montgomery, age 47, born in NC, and wife Mahala, age 28, born in TN. Children were listed as Washington, age 16, born in MO; Robbert, age 14, born in MO; Jasper, age 12, born in MO; Amanda, age 10, born in MO; Mary, age 8, born in MO; Newton, age 6, born in MO; Wallace, age 4, born in MO; and Martha, age 1, born in MO. In, Barry Co., in 1850 William Montgomery was listed with one slave, a female, age 9.

Feb 1893, Cassville Republican, Barry Co., MO: This news paper was torn and badly worn, some of the words were actually missing from the paper. Here is what was transcribed and is thought to read as to follow: Cassville Republican, Feb 1893, Capps Creek News Items stated that Friday night, Jan 20, the people in the vicinity of New Site were around by Fletcher Wormington, from Gunter's Creek, with the sad news that Wallace Montgomery's oldest boy, Orvil, had been killed by a straw stack falling on him. Mr. Wormington was on his way to Gunter Creek after ___ Montgomery, who was the barn when the accident happened. It appears that the children were playing under the edge of the straw when the stack started giving away and then the stack started to fall. For Orvil to get from under it the falling[?] straw struck him in the back and crushed him down, and kill him instantly. The frozen straw about three feet deep and had to be cut away with an ax before he could be got out. There was word ___ to have killed a horse, and was possible that he smothered to death as was reported. the remains were inferred in the Walnut Grove Cemetery, Sunday, Jan 22 at 9 am by Rev. James T. Brattin of Pierce City. Orvil was about 10 years old and an exceptionally good boy.   Mr. Montgomery and family have sympathy of a large circle of friends at this time of bereavement.

The funeral home stated that Mrs. George Mulkey's funeral was 10 Sept 1903 at 11: am and that she died of stomach trouble. She was married and was age 51 years old. She was buried at Walnut Grove Cemetery [New Site] on the 10th of Sept 1903.  In 1870 on the Federal Census, McDowell Twp., of Barry Co., MO, George Mulkey was listed in the home of John and Mary (Evans) Mulkey in 1860, and was age 4. Geo & Mary married 29 May 1881 in Barry Co.

According to an abstract an obituary in the Monett Times and of the Callaway Funeral Home records Mary Jane Orahood's funeral was on the 13th of Feb 1923 and she died 10 Feb 1923 in Oklahoma City, OK, age 84, cause of death apoplexy. The services were at the Christian Church at 2:00 PM.  Mary Jane was the daughter of John Wesley Prevoe and his wife Jane Greer. Mary Jane married James M. Orahood on the 9th April 1863 in Fountain County, IN.

Read born Feb 1828, age 72, born KY, father born Virginia, mother born Virginia, landlord, wife Mary M., born Jun 1846; age 53, born MO, father born MO, and mother born MO and in 1910 the Federal Census, Pierce Township, listed in house # 88, was Mary M. Read, head of household, widower, age 62, born in MO, mother and father born in KY.

Her funeral was at Baptist Church at 2 PM, and burial was at New Site. She was 46 yrs old 11 mos and 3 days old and was married. Myrtle's sister, Bertha Ellen Teel, married Charles Russell.

Cassville Republican, August 1892, Capps Creek News Items: Don't ask J. B. Hudson if he can run a thrasher engine or Sol Rumbaugh about that lost letter. At the time of Sol's death he was married to Sarah Browning.  He was second married to Etta Bell Haddock.  His mother, Susan, was the second wife of Charles Haddock, Jr. The funeral home stated that Solomon Rumbaugh's, funeral was on 29 Aug 1926. He died at Rochester, MN. The services were at New Site, at 2:30 PM., and his death was on the 26th of Aug 1926. The cause of his death was listed as sarcoma of the hand, and his occupation was a farmer and he was age 76 years. 

 

Solomon was married second to Etta Haddock was born July 07, 1875 and died November 25, 1937.  Solomon Rumbaugh and Etta were married at Joseph Haddock's home in Barry Co., MO, on Nov 15, 1896.  Court Proceedings, Barry Co., MO, Oct 28, 1897: Etta Belle Rumbaugh vs Solomon Rumbaugh, and judgment for plaintiff of $500 and maintenance of child.

 

In 1900, on the Federal Census, Solomon was living in Capps Creek Twp., with a daughter. She was listed as Rumbaugh, Leana - daughter - born Mar 1882, age 18, single. Joseph Haddock to Solomon Rumbaugh Sept 28, 1874, land transaction, Barry County, MO.

MO Birth and Death Records, Jefferson City, MO state that a female child was born to Robert and Cecila Teel and was born 23rd of Dec of 1883, Barry Co., MO. The listed mother was Cecila Wormington and she was born in MO, and the father was Robert Teel, a farmer, and was born in Tennessee. It was listed that this was a female child, and the first child born to Cecila. The funeral home records state that Mrs. Bertha Russell was born in Barry Co., and her funeral was held on the 25th of April 1926. The services were at New Site at 2:30 PM. The cause of death was from lobar pneumonia and 42 years, 6 mos, 1 day old. She was married and was buried at New Site Cemetery, in Barry Co., MO. Her father was Robert Teel who was born in Tennessee and her mother was Salina Wormington born in Barry Co.

 

The Barry Co., MO marriages stated that she married Charles Russell in Barry Co., MO, on November 08, 1906. Charles had 6 children and all of them but Paul are buried at New Site.

Her father was Thomas Newton Sapp and her mother was Lucinda Amanda Elam. Her mother was a sister to Richard Elam and he was married to Alice Haddock. Alice was a descendant of both Charles Haddock, Sr. and his brother Zachariah Haddock. In 1880, on the Federal Census, Newton Sapp was listed in house # 187 of Capps Creek Twp., and was age 30. The funeral home record has Pearl born in 1883. Ona Pearl had several brothers and sisters but she was the oldest sibling.

In 1880 in Capps Creek Twp., of Barry Co., MO, August Sass was listed in house # 8 as age 46 and listed as born in Prussia. His parents were born in Prussia as was his wife Julia, age 44, and also her parents. They had a number of children, which included Julius; Bruno; Augusta; Anna; Theodore; Hellena; Elbert; August; Peter; and Andy. They lived in between the Renoski and Renas families. They came to the United States about 1877.

Juliana's funeral was on the 5th Mar 1926.  She died at home at 8th and Sycamore. The services were at New Site at 2:30 PM on the 3rd of Mar 1926. The cause of death was influenza and her age was 78 years and 23 days. Her father's name was Korkaskie, born in Germany and her mother's name was Julia Kenoski and she was also born in Germany. In 1880, on the Federal Census, Juliana's place of birth was given as Prussia.

Rev. Swiger was married to Penelope Haddock and they have a double stone and are buried near her siblings and her parents.

Robert Teel's funeral was 26 June 1912, and the services were at New Site Baptist Church at 3 PM. His place of death was near Monett, MO. He was a farmer. His death came 25 June 1912, at 11:40 PM, and he was age 67 years 6 mos and 13 days.

SSW Celina Ellen (Wormington) Teel

Died: Jan 27, 1940, Barry Co., MO - Dau of Asa Hassell Wormington & Nancy Green

Cecila Wormington was not quite grown when a group of bushwhackers, in a mad raid, came to her parents home to steal food and take things, such as supplies, took Celina's cherished new shoes. Celina lived to be 93 years old and according to descendants, never forgot the loss of her new shoes.

Richmond R. Teel, farmer, died of smallpox, and his funeral was at New Site Church, 29 Nov 1921.

Died: September 03, 1916, Barry Co., MO - Dau of Charles & Sylvia (Reeves) Browning

The Teel stone reads Tenna B. Teel and R. R. Teel.

Tennessee's funeral was 3 Sept 1916 at New Site Church at 5 PM. Age 47 years, 7 mos., 13 days.
