James M. Mills

James Mills was born December 23, 1849 in Knox County, Kentucky and died May 09, 1924 buried Elon Cemetery, Orange County, IN.

Richard Campbell and Virginia Mills, Mills researchers, provide valuable information about the Mills family. James is said to have moved to Indiana leaving Kentucky in the middle of the night because one of his sons killed someone. This photo was taken around 1915 probably in in Elon, Indiana on his tobacco farm or at his son's, John's, farm, which is now under water by the Patroa Creek Reservoir.

Virginia Mills, a Mills family researcher, adds to the Mills research information.  The photo above is of James M. Mills,  Knox Co., KY, the son of Clark Mills, and the son of Nasby Mills. This photo was sent to Virginia by Richard Campbell, a Mills descendant. Editor's Note: M. Virginia Mills is the author of the Nasby Mills family book and is a very reliable researcher.

The following text from Haddock Heritage, Second Edition, 2003. It reads: 1880 Federal Population Schedules, US Census, Knox County, KY, page 108A, listed James Mills, age 32, born in KY, a farmer who listed that both of his parents were born in KY. His wife was Mary T., and she was keeping house and age 31. She listed that both of her parents were born in KY. Children were listed as William, son, age 12, born in KY; Richard, a son, age 10, born in KY; John, a son, age 8, born in KY; Dicy A., a daughter, age 5, born in KY; and Allen, a son, age 3, born in KY.
