Albert Mills of Barbourville, Knox Co., KY

Albert Mills, died at age 90, of Barbourville, KY, in Knox County.  Albert was survived by three sons, Lewis Mills and wife Nine, C. A. Mills and wife Jackie, James David Mills and wife Anita; two daughters Lucy Deaton and Pauline Miller and husband James; three sisters Dice Smith, Nancy Smith and Litha Smith; one brother, Clarence Mills and wife Pauline; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Doris Mills. 
The obituary stated that he was a son of the late Silas and Lille Broughton Mills. Services were conducted Monday, Nov 28, 2004.  Burial was at Barbourville Cemetery.

Albert Mills' wife Hester Bargo Mills, preceded him in death. Additional Information: Albert was age 16 in 1930 and was listed in the home of his parents.

1930 Federal Population Schedules, US Census, Knox Co., KY, District 4, listed Silas Mills, age 47, and he married at age 20, born in KY with KY born parents. His wife Lillie, was age 41, and married at age 15, born in KY with KY born parents. Their children were born in KY and were listed as Birdie, was age 21; Nancy, age 18; Albert, age 16; Hobart, age 12; Litha, age 10; Clarence, age 5; Thomas, age 2; and also in the household was Edward Mills, age 19, born in KY with KY born parents and he married at age 19. His wife was given as Lucy, age 17, and she married at age 17, born in KY with KY born parents. One child was given - Opal, age 5/12, born in KY. The census was taken April 15, 1903, thus dating Opal's birth to about October of 1929.

 

Ernest Smith of Knox Co., KY

Ernest Smith was age 67, of Barbourville, and he was born on June 19, 1933 at Fount, to the late Steve Smith Sr. and Nettie Jordan  Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, September 6, 2000, at 2 p.m. in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel and burial followed in the Callebs Creek Cemetery.

Survivors included one son, Tim Smith and wife Trudy of Callebs Creek; three daughters, Lisa Miller, Karen Philippi and husband Brent, all of Lexington, Jessica Daniels and step-daughter, Lori Daniels and mother Lucy of Barbourville; three sisters, Louise Smith and husband Vocus of Gray, Lillie Abner and husband G. W. of Woollum, Pauline Chesnut and husband Otis of Cranes Nest; three brothers, Steve Smith Jr. and wife Goldie of Gray, G. C. Smith and wife Lynn of North Carolina, Tom Smith and wife Betty of Illinois; a special friend; six grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.  Additional Information: Haddock descendant

 

Willie B. Mills  of Cannon, Knox Co., KY

The obituary for Willie B. Mills reads that he was age 90, of Cannon, and that he died Saturday, September 2, 2000 in the VA Medical Center in Lexington. He was the son of the late Lizzie Doan Mills and Clark Mills, born to them on September 1, 1910 in Knox County.   Survivors include his wife of over 67 years, Geneva Valentine Mills of Cannon; his son, Willard Mills and wife Cindy of Lancaster; his daughters, Loretta Lazenby and husband James of New Port Richey, Fla., Yvonne Caudill of Barbourville, Marie Jelinek of Lexington, Mary Bain and husband Donald of Lancaster and Charlene Messer and husband David of Rockholds; his brother, Denver Mills and wife Virgie of Heidrick; his sisters, Sally Knuckles of Corbin, Dora Miller of Fla. and Charlene Engle of Corbin; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; many nieces and nephews; and a special care giver.
He was a retired construction foreman, a member of the Locust Grove Baptist Church, and a US Army World War II Veteran where he received the purple heart and bronze star decorations.   Funeral services were conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, September 5 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Jimmy Siler and the Rev. Ellis Payne officiating. Burial followed in the Bingham Cemetery at Cannon. Hopper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
On October 4,1932, he united in marriage to Geneva Valentine Mills and to this union 11 children were born Burial followed in the Bingham Cemetery at Cannon. Hopper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Tennie Mills Gambrel of Williamsburg, KY

Tennie Mills Gambrel died at age 89, of Williamsburg, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2000 in the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin. Funeral services were Tuesday, September 12, 2000,  at 2 p.m. and she was laid to rest in the Mossy Gap Cemetery in Whitley County.
She was a daughter of the late Green Tom and Axie Bargo Mills born on March 21, 1911 at Scalf.   Additional Information: Printed in the Barbourville Mountain Advocate
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Axie Carroll of Holland, Mich., Parley Dee Harris and husband, James R. of Jenkins and Linda Sue Gibbs and husband Richard of Williamsburg; three sons, Otto "Spider" Gambrel and wife Geraldine of Middlesboro, Tommy Gambrel and wife Ethel of Williamsburg and Dwain Gambrel of Riverside, CA; one daughter-in-law, Francis Gambrel of Corbin; one brother, G. T. Mills of Flat Lick.

Survivors also included 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
