Alvin and Keziah were born in Middleborough, Plymouth Co., MA. Their families moved to Hague, NY, before 1820. Both families are listed in the 1820 Federal Census for Hague, Warren Co., NY. Alvin and Keziah moved their family to Ticonderoga, NY in 1834.

Alvin was listed as a farmer in the  Federal Census records for Ticonderoga, Essex Co., NY (1850 - 1880). The History of the Hayford Family 1100 - 1900 (by Otis Hayford, 1901) describes Alvin as a Baptist minister with a large family (as was his father, Benjamin Hayford).

The family bible of Nelson P. Dolbeck contains the most complete record of the births and deaths of Alvin and Keziah's family (page 1, page 2, page 3).

Erastus was born in Hague, Warren Co., NY. Some records refer to him as Alvin E. Hayford. He was 5 ft., 9 in. tall (source: National Archives' Civil War records - Certificate of Disability For Discharge). He enlisted in the Civil War as a Corporal on  November 6, 1861 at Monmouth, IL. He received a disability discharge (hemorrhoids)  on November 15, 1862 at Jackson, TN) These records also indicate he mustered in at Peoria, IL on December 20, 1861.

            Civil War: Company G, 96th Infantry Regiment New York

Albert was born in Ticonderoga, Essex Co. NY. He had blue eyes, brown hair, and a light complexion. He was 6 ft. tall. (source: National Archives' Civil War records - Company Descriptive Book.) These records also indicate he enlisted at Ticonderoga, Essex Co., NY on November 18, 1861. He mustered-in at Plattsburgh, NY on November 28, 1861. He was promoted to Sergeant in Company G on November 18, 1861. He was "taken away" by the surgeon August 5, 1862 and August 15, 1862. He was reduced in rank and transferred to Company C on August 31, 1862.

Albert died of disease (unspecified) at the hospital in Suffolk, VA on December 1, 1862. He was buried in the Union Cemetery (Suffolk, VA) with military honors and in uniform.

Edwin was born in Ticonderoga, Essex Co. NY. He had grey eyes, brown hair, and a light complexion. He was 5 ft., 6 in. tall. (source: National Archives' Civil War records - Company Descriptive Book.) These records also indicate he enlisted at Crown Point, Essex Co., NY on August 16, 1862.

The family bible records his death as January 16, 1863, while the War Department records that he died of Typhoid Fever at the Regimental Hospital in Fairfax, VA on January 15, 1863.
