The family's surname appears as Ostigui Dit Dominque most of the time in the Catholic Church's Canadian records.  Ostilly, Ostie, Ostillie, Ostiguy, and Ostigny (with and without the Dit Dominque) are common variations in the Canadian records. Osteyee is the most common version found in U. S. records.

Francois was baptized as Francois Osteguy in Marieville, Rouville, Québec.
Emilie was baptized in Chambly (St. Joseph), Rouville, Québec.

Francois brought his family to the Hague, N.Y. area a little before 1850, where most of them resided until after the Civil War.

Francois and Emily were married April 19, 1825 at St-Césaire, Rouville, Québec and had 8 children.

Henry and Cornelia had 1 child, Joel Eugene Osteyee (born about 1859), who went to live with Henry's sister Margaret Guyette.

Henry was wounded on May 4, 1863 at Fredericksburg, VA. He was discharged in September and reenlisted on January 1, 1864. He was killed in battle at Wilderness, VA and buried on the field.

Henry and Eunice had no children. Eunice's uncle, William Bevins, was appointed her guardian for the administration of Henry's estate. William filed a probate petition on Eunice's behalf on June 23, 1864 (page 1, page 2).
