Gabriel Archangel Dolbec   February 13, 1806 - February 13, 1870      (Gabriel Dolbec + Marie Angélique Plamondon)
Dorothée Beaudry            April 12, 1817 - October 20, 1883        (Jean Baptiste Beaudry + Marie Euphrosine Baille dit Printemps)

Gabriel was baptized in the Notre Dame du Rosaire parish of the city of St. Hyacinthe, Québec, Canada. The church record states his birth date was February 13, 1806, while his son's (Nelson) family bible lists the date as February 13, 1802.  The family bible lists the date of his death as February 13, 1870. An article in the Ticonderoga Sentinel (6/25/1964) states he "was killed in an accident on the present John Smith's farm in Hague". There is a "Grandfather" marker for his grave in the Valley View Cemetery (Ticonderoga, NY) on the family plot for his son Cleophus.

Gabriel and Dorothée were married September 23, 1833 in the St. George de Noyan parish in the town of Henryville, Québec, Canada.

Dorothée was known to her family and friends as Alzada Dolbec. In addition to the typical variations in the spelling of names, genealogists researching French heritage often encounter puzzles with the use of "dit" references for surnames ("dit" is similar to "aka"). French given names tend to be consistent, although the frequent use of "Marie" can cause some confusion. The family bible lists her as Zeta, with her birth as1817 and her death as October 3, 1883. The Ticonderoga Sentinel reports Mrs. Elzada Dolbeck's death as October 20, 1883 (in New Hague). The Ste Marie du Monnoir parish register for Marieville,  Québec, Canada, lists the birth for Marie Ethé Beaudry as as April 12, 1817 (in her baptismal record of April 16, 1817). Family researchers have agreed that all of the references are the same person. A note from a collection of papers for her brother, Louis Napoleon Beaudry, written by his son, Dr. John S. Beaudry, clearly identifies Alzada as his aunt.

There is a "Grandmother" marker for Alzada's grave in the Valley View Cemetery next to her husband's marker.

Gabriel and Dorothée had 2 children:

Nelson Peter Dolbeck N P D  April 30, 1836 - September 20, 1920

Ellen Susan Hayford       August 20, 1844 - March 13, 1929   (Obit.)  (Alvin Hayford + Keziah Lewis Vaughan)

Nelson was baptized when he was two years old on August 5, 1838 in the St. George de Noyan parish in the town of Henryville, Québec, Canada, he was christened "Pierre Antoine Domitian Dolbec".

Nelson and Ellen had 14 children.

Cleophus L. Dolbeck      July 5, 1838 - May 18, 1914
Civil War:  Company H, 5th Regiment, New York Cavalry
    Edith Johnson
   June 1845 - November 10, 1911    (Hoyt Johnson + Rebecca Bevins)

Cleophus was baptized August 5, 1838 in the St. George de Noyan parish in the town of Henryville, Québec, Canada. His christened "Louis Cléophas Dolbec".  Civil war records list Franklin, VT as his place of birth. He was 5ft., 5in. tall with grey eyes, brown hair, and a dark complexion (source: National Archives' Civil War records - Muster and Descriptive Roll).

Cleophus enlisted in Company H, 5th Regiment, New York Cavalry on August 29, 1862 at Crown Point, Essex Co., NY. He mustered in the same day at the Albany, NY depot. The records indicate he deserted on February 15, 1863 while on duty "after horses" near Washington, DC.

(Note: The Company Descriptive Book lists Hague, Warren Co., as his birthplace and indicates he deserted on February 18, 1863 "Fairfax C. House".)

Cleophus was listed as George Dolbeck in the 1850 federal census for the town of Franklin Franklin Co., VT. He was referred to as Clifton, Clifford, and Adolphus in different years of the federal census for Ticonderoga, Essex Co., NY.

Edith's mother, Rebecca (Bevins) Johnson, wrote the article "Early Incidents of Hague as told by Mrs. Hoyt Johnson " published by the Ticonderoga Sentinel in the summer of 1892.

Cleophus and Edith had 13 children.
