Mr. Richard Delarm of Bangor, Franklin Co., NY and Miss Emeline Kelly of Fort Covington, Franklin Co., NY were married December 19, 1856 in Bangor (Franklin County, NY) by the Rev. C. In the late 1850's (prob.1857), Richard bought a sawmill built by Edwin S. Bean. It was on the east branch of the Deer river near Fort Covington Center (Franklin Co., NY). The 1862 Gazetteer and Directory of Franklin and Clinton Counties lists Richard as the owner of a saw mill in Fort Covington Centre. Records indicate Richard sold the sawmill back to Edwin S. Bean after a couple years.

Richard enlisted in the Civil War August 23, 1864 at Chateaugay, Franklin Co., NY. His enlistment form (obtained from the National Archives) also shows he mustered into service on August 29, 1864  for one year in the Scotts 900 Regiment of the NY Cavalry Volunteers (at Malone, NY). He was discharged on October 28, 1864  at Hearts Island, NY because of a pre-existing disability.

The Muster and Descriptive Roll for the 11th Regiment of the New York Cavalry on September 1, 1864 describes Richard as having black eyes, black hair, and a dark complexion. It reports him being 5' and 51/2" tall.

Richard was ordained in the Wesleyan Methodist Ministry in March of 1865. The Wesleyan Methodist publication, One Hundred Years for Christ 1842-1942 Champlain Conference Centennial, lists Richard as a preacher "furnished" by Cooks Corners, Franklin Co., NY. It also lists Richard as a minister in Forest Dale (Rutland Co., VT), Macomb (St Lawrence Co., NY), Hague (Warren Co., NY), Brookdale (St. Lawrence Co., NY), and West Plattsburg (Clinton Co., NY).

Richard earned praise for his skills everywhere he went, demonstrated by this article from the February 14, 1874 issue of the Ticonderoga Sentinel:

"Among the matters of interest in our town, I would mention a revival of religion in progress, with many converts, in the Wesleyan Methodist denomination, under the pastoral labors of Rev. Richard De Larm. The good people here have shown their appreciation for his services by donating liberally for his benefit, amounting in the aggregate, to about $200."

Richard retired from the ministry in the spring of 1885 and bought a farm in Hague, Warren Co., NY.

Emeline received $100.46 on January 8, 1889 from the US Treasury Department (Certificate No. 70019) as Richard's widow for his service in the Civil War.

Richard and Emeline are buried in the Hague Cemetery (lot 59 bounded on the north corner by John Wheeler's lot) . There are no markers.

Edith was a school teacher while her father was a minister in Hague, NY. School records compiled by Clifton West, Hague Town Historian indicate she was employed during 1873, 1874, and 1875. The 1874-1875 School Register for District # 3 (West Hague) contains Edith's resume:
