_{According to Mary's published obituary in the Rockwood Times, she had a long-standing history of heart trouble that contributed to her inability to recover from what the newspaper called "a stroke of paralysis." She died in Rockwood, TN on 20 Jul 1909, two weeks following the stroke. Mary is buried beside three of her children and her father Robert Gilliland HAGGARD.
