In 1738, he was in Goochland and stated himself as farmer/Otey. purchased 400 acrs from William Moseley with the curious provision that if Mosely paid back the purchase money before May 10, 1739, the land returned to Moselpy (Goochland Deed Book B, p1819 witnessed by John Payne, Robert Rogers, and David Comins) Mosely did pay and the land was returned.)
In 1742 Henry Cary deeded Benjamin for 10 Shllings, 400 acres on Wilis River in Goocheland. Witness Thomas Turpin,
In 1746, Henry Cary deeded Benjamin 200 more acres adj. Benjamins property. Witnessed David Bell, Alex Marks, Chales Turnbull jr. and Ju Harriss. Here in Horn's Quarter Creek in Goochland (Later Cumberland Co,) Benjamin lived until deathe 1761
Justice of Peace in Cumberalnd in 1749, along with George Carrington and Archilbald Cary. Church warden of St. Jame' Parish, originaly in Goochland, later in cumberland. Later parish divided into Northam and Southam. Served Southam 1742-1745 when asked to be relieved as church too remore from Hom (Southam Parish Vestry Book, Morgan Robertson, Henrico Parishes and Parishes descended Therefrom)
Will dated Jan 14, 1761, probated May 25, 1761, Cumberland Co. Will Book Lp215, left plantation to Pricilla in her lifetime, afterwardes divided between her two sons as was the 2000 acres promised by Col. Archilbald Cary and Col. Clement Read. The will gave his son Cary Harrison the choice of lots and to Benjamin his father's watch and silver buckles. (Archilbald Cary and Henry Trent, executors, Witnesses: David Bell, Henry Trent, Samuel Allen). In his will Benjamin wrote that Col. Arch. Cary (grandson of Henry, son of Miles) and Col Clement Read, each promised him 1000 acres. ( The promise was fulfilled after Benjamin's death and each of his son's received 1000 acres in what was later Buckingham Co./Otey)
The will of Benjamin Harrison mentions "Whereas Colonel Archibald Cary and Colonel Clement Read have each of them [made] me a gift by word of mouth of one thousand acres of [land] apeice which land I desire may be Equally in Quality and Quantity be divided between my two Sons and their heirs or assigns I do appoint Colonel Archd Cary & Alex Trent my whole and sole executors." Sureties for the executors were Maruice Langhorne, John Fleming, Samuel Allen. [S181]
