Be it remembered that heretofore (to wit) at a Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions began and held for the County of Rowan at the Court House in Salisbury on the third Monday in May anno Domini (1819) One Thousand eight hundred and nineteen and in the 43rd year of our independence the following record was made in Court.

This day personally appeard in open Court Jesse Harrison aged sixty three years, a resident of Rowan County and State of North Carolina, who being first duly sworn according of a late Act of Congress entitled an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and Naval service of the United States during the Revolutionary War. That he the said Jesse Harrison enlisted in the Company commanded by Captain Dempsy Gregory in the State of North Carolina, County of Halifax, said Gregory belonged to the Tenth North Carolina Regiment of Continentals commanded by Col. Shepperd, deponent enlisted about the month of August, 1777, joined the main army at Valley Forge and was there transferred to the First Regiment of North Carolina Continentals in the Company commanded by Captain Tatum, that he continued to serve in the said Corps until the fall of Charleston, at which place he escaped, being taken out with the wagons, joined a volunteer company under Lockheart who went to the assistance of the army under General Gates a short time before the battle of Camden, was after the dispursion of Gates army regularly discharged from service in Halifax County, North Carolina, having had remained in the service about three years, that circumstances as to stand in need of the assistance of his country for support -- that he has now no other evidence in his possession of his said services. Jacob Goss and Nathan Riley being duly sworn according to law disposith that they are well acquainted with the deponent Jesse Harrison, that he is a man of good charactor, and that he is in such reduced circumstances as to need the assistance of his country for support. Now it appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that Jesse Harrison did serve in the Revolutionary War of the United States against the common enemy for a longer term than nine months, and that he is in such reduced circumstances as to stand in need of the assistance of his county for support. It is therefore ordered that the foregoing be made a matter of record, and that the clerk certify and transcribe the same to the Honorable the Secretary of War.

I, John Giles (or Gibs) clerk of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions of Rowan County, do hereby certify the foregoing to be a true copy as taken from the minutes of the Court aforesaid. In testimony whereof I have herewith set my hand and affixed the Seal of Said Court at office in Salisbury this 25th of June, 1819.

War of the United States all of which was set forth in his original declaration under the date of _____ and that a pension certificate No. ________ was granted him, and I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818, and that I have not since that time, by gift, sale or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress entitled an Act to Provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War, passed on the 18th day of March, 1818. and that I have not, nor has any person in trust for me any property of security, contracts or debts due me, nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule which follows and by me subscribed and which is in the following made:

2 Horses at $40 each
4 Head of Cattel
5 Sheep
1 Sow and 8 pigs

The said Jesse Harrison further declared upon his oath in Open Court that he is by profession a farmer, but that owing to his age and infirmities, he is unable to persue his trade and thereby support himself.

Sworn to and declared in Open Court this 25th day of November Anno Domini, 1820 before the Magistrates presiding.

I, John Giles Clerk of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions of Rowan County, do hereby certify that the foregoing oath and schedule are truly copied from the record of the said Court; and I do further certify that it is the opinion of the said Court that the total amount in value of _____________.

The rest of this record was omitted when sent by the National Archives Trust Fund Board, however there was included a copy of a form sent out by the Dept. of the Interior, Bureau of Pensions, July 30, 1923, to someone who had requested the history of Jesse Harrison, Revolutionary War Soldier. This form gave a summary of the information contained in the pension application, said that his claim had been allowed, and that in 1824 Jesse Harrison was a resident of Davidson Co., NC and that his wife (name not stated) was referred to, and a daughter Mary was aged about 30 years in 1824, and his son Blake was about 18 years in 1824. The date of his death was not given. Another page of this record shows that Jesse Harrison was granted $8 a month to commence on the 25th day of June, 1819, and another note on same page "restored 15 Jan 1826, commencing 23 Dec 1825, and certification sent to Hon. J. Long N. R. (?)
