~Jeptha has been proven by DNA tests to have descended from David Harriss of Pittsylvania Co., VA and Clarke Co., GA. He is erroneously listed in the 1850 Marshall Co.,MS Census as "Jesse P." Harris, son of WILLIAM M. and LUCINDA SCOGGINS HARRIS. William M. Harris, born in Clarke Co.,GA in 1801 was the son of William David Harris and Diademia Hendley Harris. William D. Harris was the son of David Harriss. ~William M. Harris was the only one of David Harriss's descendants that migrated to Mississippi. ~Jeptha enlisted in the 19th MS Infantry in 1861,(The 19th's men were raised in the counties of Warren, Jefferson, Greene, Panola, Marshall, MS.) ~William M. (widowed), Cicero, Edward and M.H. Harris moved to Crittenden Co.,AR by 1870. Jeptha and Emma were then in Craighead Co.,AR, just to the north. By 1880, Edward Harris age 51, Cicero Harris age 44, and Mary H. age 11,their sister, were in nearby Cross Co.,AR. ~Jeptha and Emma married in Cross Co.,AR where William M., Cicero and Edward also lived at the time. ~Felix Harris, brother of Jeptha, named his daughter "Mentora". Jeptha also named a daughter "Sarah Elizabeth Mentora". This is an unusual name; perhaps a family name.

Jeptha married NANCY EMMA TOMLIN November 14, 1867 in Cross Co.,AR.* daughter of WILLIAM TOMLINSON and ELIZABETH JOHNSON. She was born March 18, 1842* in Iredell Co., NC, and died July 16, 1883 in Craighead Co.AR. She is said to have died of Tuberculosis. She was probably buried at Pine Log Cemetery, as many other family members were buried there. On James Elbert Harris' death certificate, her name was erroneously listed as "Elizabeth Tomlinson".

Ebb's sister, Mary raised him after his parents died when he was a young child. He worked at the Stave Mill. His eye was hurt by a sliver of wood and he had his eye removed. He wore a glass eye after that.

Bill was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Transportation Corp in India. A graduate of Harding College in Searcy, AR, Bill Harris retired from Missouri Pacific Railroad in St. Louis, MO. He was a lay minister for the United Methodist Church and often spoke at small rural churches when called upon. He and Lucille also sang duets and were in the church choir. He was an unassuming, gentle man who loved God and his family. He and Lucille were married over 50 years.

TARNCE HAZEL DIGGS, son of SARAH ELIZABETH MENTORIA HARRIS was born October 13, 1893 in Arkansas, and died October 22, 1963 in Arkansas. He was buried at Pine Log Cemetary near Brookland, AR. He married HARRIETT WOODS. Tarnce's wife left when Wanda was still a baby. No one knows where she went. The children were raised by William and Sarah Elizabeth...eventually going to live with Troy. Elvis P. Diggs Jr., nephew of Tarnce, said Hazel was a sweet, kind girl. Wanda had a wild streak and took off for Detroit after working long enough to get bus fare.
