Immigration                 19 Oct 1853
Jacob Feldman Sr. immigrated from Baden, Germany. He left Harve on 20 September 1853 and arrived at  the port of New York on the19th of October 1853 aboard the ship  Harve. He is listed as a 31 year old farmer from Baden.3,7   See list of passenger on the Harve  here.   Line 122

His obituary says that he arrived in 1851.  Could this Jacob that arrived in 1853 be the Older Jacob??? Have not been able to find an immigration information regarding the older Jakob/Jacob and we know that he came to Whiteside county as he is buried there.

Marriage 26 April 1858 Jacob Feldman Sr., 36 years old, married Christina Swartz, who was 29 years old, 26 April 1858 in Morrison, Whiteside county, Illinois. This marriage is #91 in Whiteside county. The History of Whiteside county says that they had only two children, one of whom died as an infant.8,9

Intent 11 June 1859 Jacob filed his  Intent papers  with the courts in Morrison, Whiteside county, Illinois on 11 June 1859.5  Note that his name is spelled on this document as Feldemann.

Research needed


This family has not been found on the 1860 nor 1870 census.  Since he filed intent papers in 1859 in Whiteside county, he should be there!    When did he become a citizen????

 They had only two children..one who died very young. Likely one of the children that can not be identified in Morrison cemetery.3


Feldman store You can see "Feldman on the fascia of this building.  Jacob lived here and it is possible that George and his family lived here at one time also.

Cen1880 1880 Jacob Feldman Sr. and Christina Swartz show on the 1880 census for Morrison, Whiteside county, Illinois taken 1880. They are living on Main Street. Jacob is 57 years old, keeps a restaurant (with brother George Henry), and was born in Baden. Wife, Christina is 50 years old and was born in Baden. Son Jacob is still at home and is 20 years old. Henry Winters,  who was the son of sister Catherine Feldman Winter(s) lives with them and is employed as a baker.10

The History of Whiteside county tells us that he ran a restaurant, was a Lutheran and belonged to the IOOF. He was exempt from military duty during the Civil War because of "a disability", but does not say what the disability was. This source also tells us that he was a Republican.11


Death 3 March 1895 Jacob died on 3 March 1895 at Morrison, Whiteside county, Illinois at age 72.4 
Burial Jacob was buried in Grove Hill cemetery in Morrison, Illinois.3,4

Obituary
JACOB FELDMAN Sr. -
 At his home in this city, on Sunday, March 3, 1895 of paralysis, Mr. Jacob Feldman, aged 72 years, 10 month and 11 days.

Jacob Feldman was born in Baden, Germany, April 22, 1822 and came to America in October 1851. He located in New Jersey from which State he came to Whiteside Co., Ill.

He married to Christina Schwartz in 1858, which union was blessed with two children, one of whom died in infancy, the other, Jacob Feldman, Jr. dying a few years ago. The deceased was a member of the Protestant Reform church, a quiet and peaceable man, a good citizen and had a large circle of friends who esteemed him greatly for his kind disposition. He was a memeber of the independent order of Odd Fellows having been initiated in Grove Lodge No. 257, of this city July 10, 1877 and was highly respected by all members of the fraternity.

He leaves an aged widow, a daughter-in-law, three grand children, one brother and two sisters to mourn his departure. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Presybterian church conducted by Rev. J. W. Skinner. After the services the body was taken in charge by the Odd Fellows, escorted to Grove Hill cemetery where the last sad rites were prefomed by that order.12
