Susan Jane Hawpe, the daughter of George W. Hawpe and Mary Campbell, married Robert Evans Hale on December 22, 1848 in Caledonia, Pulaski Co., IL. Robert and Susan continued to live in Illinois for a few more years and then moved to Phillips County, Arkansas. A portion of Phillips County later became Lee County when it was formed and this is where Robert and Susan made their home.
