Perhaps they were used at an Arcade, Carnival, Casino, Commissary, General Store or something else ? ?
We just learned recently that there were four of these token issued, two sizes
of the 54
pieces, a 104
and a 254 ...

we discovered that Rosa, LA is within St. Landry Parish, Louisiana ... and then from yahoo
maps , we find that Rosa is located on Hwy 71 just about 15 miles north of Opelousas, the Parish [county] seat ... taking Hwy 4 [Petite Prairie Bayou Rd.] east from Hwy. 71, the
road does a wye and changes name, the north fork is Hicks Rd. [Hwy. 4] and the east fork is Hudspeth Road. On Hicks Rd. just beyond the wye, is St Catherine's Church and Cemetery as
seen at Map

Quest if one zooms in enough [south of the main intersection] you will see a Hudspeth Lane too ! On a USGS map one can see there are a "few" buildings on either side of the Hwy. and the Rail Road
tracks that run parallel with the Hwy. on the east side ...
Here is the answer to our first trivia item ...
info shared with us was found in the book "Louisiana Trade Tokens" by Louis Crawford and Glyn Farber, copyright 1996 by the Token and Medal Society, Inc.
"The Hudspeth family, [responsible for creating this token] operated a general store, the Bessie C sugar plantation, a cotton gin and a syrup mill where they manufactured "Easy's Best" cane
syrup. Dan Hudspeth established a one thousand acre plantation a few years after the Civil War. His son, Edward Veazey, took over the operation about 1900 and son Ned built the commissary about this time. Edward's three sons - Veazey, Allen, and Willery - assumed operations and utilized the tokens in the 1940s and remained
in business into the 1970s."

ROSA
The Rosa area was settled before the Civil War, but a community did not develop until after the coming of the railroad in the 1880s. It was located on what is now Hwy. 71, between LeMoyen and LeBeau. Land for the railroad was given by Leopold Godchaux, who owned big tracts of land from Big Cane to LeBeau. He named the depot for his eldest daughter, Rosa.
Another of the large landowners of the area was Dan Hudspeth, who came to Rosa about the time of the Civil War. By the turn of the century, the Hudspeth family planted more than 1,000 acres and operated a syrup mill and a cotton gin.
Dan Hudspeth's son, Ned built the original commissary at Rosa about 1900 and replaced it when it burned in 1918.
