| Edward and Daniel Ruggles were from King George County, Virginia.
Daniel Ruggles was commissioned Brigader-General of the Virginia volunteers
at the beginning of the war, assigned to command of the State forces along
the line of the Potomac from Mt. Vernon south. In May 1861, he was
put in command of troops from counties around Fredericksburg, where he
was stationed. He then became Colonel of the Provisional Army.
In August 1861, he was commissioned Brigadier-General, Provisional Army,
Confederate States and was ordered to Pensacola, FL, and then to New Orleans.
He participated in several campaigns in LA, and MS, including Shiloh and
Vicksburg. His son Edward served with him throughout the war as Major.
Daniel and Edward resided in Fredericksburg and King George County after
the war.
