Jane Richardson appeared on the census of 30 Mar 1851 in the Village, Morebattle, Par. of Morebattle, ROX, SCT, in the household of James Richardson and Mary Hogg as daughter of James.2 Jane Richardson appeared on the census of 1861 Morebattle, ROX, SCT, in the household of James Richardson and Mary Hogg as daughter of James.3Jane Richardson appeared on the census of 1871 in a "room above Square Hart Bank", Kelso, ROX, SCT, enumerated as as Jane Richardson, 21 gen dom serv b Morebattle, ROX a servant in the hsehold of James M Stewart 26 bank accountant b Eassie & Nevay, Fofrar; wife Mary C T 23 b Falkirk, STI; Children: Margaret H 3, b Kirkintillock, DND; Ann C 1 b Kelso.4
Jane appeared on the census of 1881 Antonshill, Par. of Eccles, BEW, SCT, enumerated as Jane Richardson 29 housemaid b Morebattle, in hsehold of James Hunter, 25 Lieut 9th Lancers, b Edin MLN (and his mother, siblings +++).5 She was not found in the census of 1891 ROX, SCT, (not immediately obvious ENG either).6
Wills/bequests
Jane Richardson wrote a will on 22 Sep 1897 Morebattle, ROX, SCT, the executors named were "Robert Richardson, Police Constable, Harbottle, in the County of Northumberland, my brother, and Robert Handyside, Solicitor, Supreme Courts of Scotland, Dalkeith". Her parents, or the survivor thereof, received the income on her estate, but could also claim up to £10 a year of the capital at the discretion of the Trustees; Residual estate to be divided: 1 part to brother Robert; 3 parts to brother James (but the Trustees could invest his share and only give him the income thereof if they thought fit, or any capital "as they shall deem proper and necessary"); 1 part each to nephews Robert and Alexander Richardson (children of her deceased sister Isabella) The will was witnessed by Robert Handyside, Mrs Isabella Hogg or Handyside, widow and Christina Handyside, Spinster.7 An Inventory of the estate of Jane Richardson was taken on 5 Jul 1898 Sheriff Court, Jedburgh, ROX, SCT, "Inventory of the Personal or Moveable Estate and Effects, wheresoever situated of the late Miss Jane Richardson, who resided at Morebattle in the County of Roxburgh, who died at Morebattle on the 12th day of April 1898Total amount of Personal Estate situated in the United Kingdom £417/12/4 Signed R Handyside, Jas Gray JP
At Dalkeith, the second day of June Eighteen hundred and ninety eight Appeared Robert Handyside Solicitor Supreme Courts fo Scotland, Dalkeith, who being solemnly sworn and examined Deponses That the said Jane Richardson, who resided at Morebattle in the County of Roxburgh died at Morebattle, upon the twelfth day of April Eighteen hundred and ninety eight, and had at the time of her death her ordinary or principal domicle in the County of Roxburgh That the Deponent is the Executor nominate of the said deceased Jane Richardson along with Robert Richardson, Police Constable, sometime at Harbottle, in the County of Northumberland, now at Blyth, there, her brother, conform to Trust Disposition and Settlement executed by deceased dated twenty second September Eighteen hundred and ninety seven, which is now exhibited and signed by the Deponent and the said Justice of the Peace of this date, as relative hereto That the Deponent has entered, or is desirous to enter, upon the possession and management of the deceased's estate as Executor aforesaid does not exceed Five hundred pounds sterling as particularly shown in the foregoing Inventory and in the Statement and Accounts hereto annexed

Confirmation in favour of Robert Richardson Police Constable, sometime at Harbottle, in the County of Northumberland now at Blyth there, and Robert Handyside, Solicitor Supreme Courts of Scotland, Dalkeith, Executors nominate of Jane Richardson, who resided at Morebattle in the County of Roxburgh who died testate on the 12th day of April 1898 at Morebattle, and had at the time of death her ordinary or principal domicile in Roxburghshire.Therefore I in her Majesty's name, and authority, Ratify, Approve, and Confirm the nomination of Executors contained in the foresaid Trust Disposition and Settlement, And I give and commit to the said Robert Richardson and Robert Handyside, and the survivor of them full power to uplift, receive, administer and dispose of the said Personal Estate and Effects, grant discharges thereof if needful to pursue therefor and generally everything concerning the same to do that to the Office of Executors nominate is known to belong.7
