Welcome to
my Home Page. Where do I start? Well, 1066 and the Battle of
Hastings would be a good starting point for my ancestors and those of
my husband.
We both come from illustrious families with descendancy and connections
from the royalty and nobility of England to Blacksmiths, Ag Labs, a Royal
Worcester china painter, Mariners, the Founder of a Classic Horse
Race, Catholic Recusants, and not forgetting my ancestor's nephew who
is said to have led the last cavalry charge at the Battle of Waterloo--we have them all!!
Our families have come a long way from my husband's illustrious ancestor Sir
Robert de St. Leger, who, (according to 'family legend' and
"Burke's Peerage") supported MY ancestor William, Duke of
Normandy (better known as "William the Conqueror") when he
stumbled on the beach when the Normans landed at Pevensey Bay, to Roger
de Toeni, Standard Bearer to William the Conqueror (and another of my
direct ancestors) to Jane St. Leger (my husband's 3 x great
grandmother) who married "beneath"
her and was disowned by her family, The Hon. Elizabeth St.
Leger, the
1st Lady Freemason and my ancestor Christopher Heveningham who
"lost" his families' fortune and his wife's estate and fortune
too. And last, but not least Capt. William Andrew Feild who rescued
14 sailors from the wreck of the "Felicita" in 1833.
My ancestors came
from Wales, Ireland, Staffordshire and Worcestershire. My
husband's ancestors came from Devon, Northamptonshire, Kent, Sussex,
Shropshire and Ireland. Like many families they eventually moved
towards the cities and settled in Birmingham and London which is where our
stories begin.
Now we come to my generation and that of my children and
grandchildren. It is for them and their descendants that I have
compiled this web-page but I hope other researchers interested in the same
family names might also benefit from my research.
