Me and my family

All About ME

This is me, (actually sort of looks like me), in my favorite place in the world - the beach.

OK, these first two paragraphs only make sense if you came here from my Genealogy WebSite - if you came here from "My Quiet Place" Christian WebSite, skip to paragraph three (About Me).

To the Genealogy surfers - After all the death certificates and family charts, I thought that it was time for something a little "lighter." Don't get me wrong, I love an old cemetery as much as the next genealogist, but after compiling all of this data and learning HTML code and uploading files, I thought that my family website needed a more personal touch. It's easier to contact someone by e-mail with corrections, comments or questions if you feel something of a connection to them, kinda know who they are and where they're coming from.

One of the things I've enjoyed the most during my search for my ancestors is the ever so distant "cousins" I have met along the way, and the "almost cousins" who turned out not to be related, but were just so great that I wish they were. It is my sincerest wish that by writing this page, maybe I will meet some more "almost cousins," and maybe even another "distant cousin" or two. So, although my WebSite building will never be finished until the Lord calls me home, I thought I would stop and take time to talk about me just a little. Besides, a genealogist's work is never done until you trace each surname back to Noah and his three sons - so now's as good a time as any.

About me - I live in Kentucky, so I am a southern woman and I say things like y'all and sometimes I am completely unaware when an "ain't" slips out, and I cook things like collard greens with meat grease in 'em, and we love ocra, and it just ain't right if you don't raise tomatoes every season. I was born and raised here, and grew up in a little country church, the one I have a history page about (Salem UMC). I am the seventh generation of the Hill family to attend this church, and it's very dear to my heart.

I am a pastor's wife and have been since 1999. Being a member of the "pastor's family" isn't always easy ya' know, it's life in a fishbowl. I have a WebSite dedicated to the trials of a pastor's wife, you can see it HERE. Kevin and I have a beautiful 13 year old daughter, Elyssa Maleigh, whom I Home School. She is the greatest joy in my life. She thinks genealogy is "boring," but she does help me transcribe cemeteries, and she's still young yet, I believe she'll come around. She has her own WebSite, you can visit it HERE. Since Home Schooling keeps you at "HOME," I have an Internet business where I do genealogy research and web-design for others. If you are interested, you can click here, it's called "Hill for Hire." Also, I have the "bestest" friend in the whole wide world - she keeps me sane, her name is Joyce. She's a pastor's kid/missionary kid with a fascinating life and wonderful insight, comfort, and unconditional love for me when I feel like I can't keep going. She also has her own WebPage, you can see it HERE.

Statement of Faith - As you may have figured out already, I am a Christian. Jesus Christ is my lord and Savior and I believe His way is the only way. Rest assured, I tried my way for a long time and have tested and proved that I am a fool and need Jesus to guide the way for me. I believe that the Bible is God's Word breathed, written by men, but not authored by men. I believe that Jesus Christ was and is the Son of God, came to earth and died for the sins of the world. I believe He rose from the dead, and lives in the heart of every Christian. I believe that as Jesus told Nicodemus, you can't simply believe there is a God and be a "good person," but must be born again to be received into the Kingdom of Heaven. I believe that there is power in the blood and Name of Jesus, and that all you have to do is call on Him and He will be there for you. That being said, it's not a one time experience - church attendence doesn't make you a Christian anymore that going to McDonald's makes you a hamburger. Christianity is a way of life and an attitude of heart and mind, not a Sunday habit.

Well, I really didn't intend for this page to be so long, but I am a person of "too many" words. I wanted this page to give the reader a good sense of who I am, and I suppose rambling is just another way of accomplishing just that. For those of you who actually made it through all of this, thanks and God bless 'ya - you must be a very tolerant person.

For you genealogists - Please e-mail me if you have any additions or corrections to my data, or maybe you're one of those "distant cousins," or even an "almost cousin." I'd love to hear from you regardless.
