Whereas
Thomas Hinshaw
son of
William & Sarah Hinshaw
of Guilford County and province of North Carolina
and
Rebeckah Marshill
Daughter of
William and Rebeckah Marshill
of Chatham County & province afforesd
having Declared
intentions of marriage with Each other before several monthly meetings
of the people Called Quakers at Cane Creek meeting house in
orange County & province afforesaid according to the good order
used amongst them and having
consent of parents and Relations Concerned their
sd proposals of marriage was allowed of by said meeting
Now These are to Certify
whom it may concern that for the full
accomplishing their said intentions this
fourteenth Day of the tenth month in the year of our Lord
one thousand seven hundred & seventy nine then they the said
Thomas Hinshaw
and
Rebeckah Marshill
appeared in a publick meeting of the said people and others at their
meeting house at Cane Creek abovesaid and the said
Thomas Hinshaw
taking the said
Rebeckah Marshill
by the hand did in a solemn manner openly Declare that he took
her the said
Rebeckah Marshill
to be his wife promising with the Lords assistance
to be unto her a true and faithfull Husband untill Death
should seperate them or words to the same effect -- and then
and there in the same assembly the said
Rebeckah Marshill
did in like manner openly declare she took him the said
Thomas Hinshaw
to be her husband promising with the Lords assistance to be unto him a
true and faithful wife untill Death should seperate them or words
to that purpose ---
And Moreover they the sd Thomas Hinshaw and Rebeckah Marshill she according to the Custom of marriage assuming the name of her husband as a further Confirmation thereof did then and there to these presents set their hands -- and we being present at the solemnization of the said marriage do as witnesses there unto also subscribe our names the day and year above written -- Thomas Hinshaw twelve inserted viz
