Hogg Deaths

Joseph Hogg, Captain of the ship 'Caines', died 18 June 1866 at port of Quebec.

Jennet Hogg died 12 June 1874, aged 85 and husband Andrew Wilson died 26 Feb 1866, age 82, and their son Andrew Wilson died 4 Sept 1874. They are buried at Maple Grove Presbyterian Cemetery, Melbourne, Richmond County, Quebec.

George Hogg, Presbyterian, in 1894 formed the Guaranteed Pure Milk Co at Long Point, near Montreal. Hogg was President and lived in Westmount. He was mayor of Westmount in 1909. George's sister, Ellen Kerr Hogg married a Mr Trenholme. Ellen died 1914 in Westmount. Their children :

After Ellen's death in 1914, Trenholme married 2nd to Anna Maude Hall. they had one son : George Henry Trenholme

 

Betsey Hogg, born Dumbarton, N.H., married Francis Peasley, born 1767 in Weare, N.H. They moved to East Bolton, Quebec around 1810, when Francis' father, Jonathan Peasley came from the USA. Francis died Nov 30, 1802 at age 35, and his headstone is in an obscure cow pasture on the Drummond Point Rd, on Lake Memphremagog. Francis Peasley and Betsey Hogg had 2 children :

There was a Hogg family in the early congregation (1830s) of St Peter's C of E at St Georges de Beauce (Aubert Gallion), Quebec.


This Hogg information is from an index of burials for Gaspe County,Quebec by Serge Ouellet & Guy Richard. Isabella Hogg, wife of William Archibald Kerr, of Petit Pabos, Gaspe County, who died February 12, 1881, buried in St. James' Cemetery, Cape Cove, Gaspe, Quebec. There is no information on the death of Isabella Hogg just that of her husband. Thanks to Curt

Terry - Can you help me locate this man who resided in Shawinigan, GrandMere, Quebec, Prov. from 40s and Montreal, Quebec in early 60s. Thomas Hogg resided in Ville d'Anjou, Quebec. Started a company called Avala Chemicals Co. Ltd. in l963-4? Wm.Hogg married in l973 approx. Thanks for your help.

The life history of Hugh Hogg in the Royal Irish Fusiliers during the Penninsular Wars, the West Indies campaigns, and on the Portage of Temiscouata, Quebec, and eventual settlement in Megantic County. Includes extensive genealogy of his descendants.

Hugh Hogg born circa 1774, joined the Royal Irish Fusiliers at Banbridge, County Down, Ireland in 1791. He served in the Napoleanic Wars in Belgium, France and Holland, then to the West Indies in 1797 fro 8 years. On return to Britian, he was then sent to Quebec in 1807 with the 4th Royal Veterans Battalion. He took a wife (2nd one - Louisa Greffard) at Quebec City in 1814 and he (along with his wife) was posted to the Portage of Temiscouata, to man one of the relay points on this British overland military route between Quebec and Halifax. He was released from the military in 1817, and they stopped provisions. After years of starvation in the woods, he and his family were resettled in 1827 in Inverness Tp, Megantic County, Quebec. He lived to be aged 101 years.

Hugh Hogg had 10 children (the first two by his previous wife, and 8 by Louisa Greffard), the first born in Quebec City, 8 born on the Portage of Temiscouata and the last born in Inverness, Que. The children were :

  1. Sarah Hogg b 1811, m James McCartney. Moved around 1845 to the Huron Tract, Upper Canada
  2. Mary Hogg 1811-1812
  3. Mary Hogg 1815-1875 m George Henry Andrews of Inverness. Many of their children went to Alberta
  4. Sophia Hogg 1816-1860, m to Thomas Davidson of Inverness
  5. Eliza Hogg b 1817, m to George Davidson of Inverness
  6. Charlotte Hogg 1819-1912 m William George of Inverness
  7. Margaret Hogg 1822-1898 m James Wilson of Inverness
  8. Joseph Hogg 1825-1898 m Mary McKenzie of Inverness. Many of their children went to Alberta
  9. Maria Harriet Hogg 1826-1899 m Richard Filgate of Inverness. Many of their children went to Vermont
  10. Hugh Hogg 1827-1894, m Margaret Little of Inverness. Some of their children stayed in Quebec, and others went to Vermont and NH.
