In the early 1900's Louise and her husband, Carl Koehn, lived on a farm near the hamlet of Burt, Town of Newfane, Niagara County, NY.  The four living children were raised on this farm.  Augusta, at the age of 18, in 1908, moved to Lockport, NY, later marrying Frank Holtz about 1915.  Frank moved to Buffalo, NY at the age of 18, in 1912, and went to work for the railroad.  He married Emily Welch in 1920.  Anna continued to live in Newfane until she married William Heuck in 1917.  Carl Jr. married Florence Nagel in 1944.
Her husband, Carl, whose full name was John Carl Martin Koehn, died in 1922.  She remarried in 1929 to Charles L. Heuck, also known as Charlie or Carl.

She married (1) John Carl Martin Koehn 1888 in Mechlenburg-Schwerin, Germany, son of Karl Koehn and Sophia Tietzen. He was born 09 Apr 1856 in Carolinenhof, Mecklenburg, Germany, and died 08 May 1922 in Lockport, Niagara, NY at home on Stone Rd.. She married (2) Carl Ludwig Friedrich Heuck 05 Jan 1929 in Newfane, Niagara, NY, son of Johann Heuck and Fredericka Burr. He was born 04 Jul 1865 in Gross Gievitz, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany, and died 30 Dec 1943 in Newfane, Niagara, NY.

Funeral services at Prudden Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport, NY, Saturday afternoon at 3:30 with Rev. Herman Meier officiating. Bearers were Raymond Holtz, William Holtz, Paul Greenwald, William Heuck, Ernest Buhr Jr., and Walter Miller. Died on Thursday morning at home on Rounds Rd.

The 1867 Census of Mecklenburg shows a "Sophia" Koehn, maiden name

"Tietzen", born in Kleinen Siemer. She was head of household at the

time in Carolinenhof. Living with her was Heinrich, Carl, and Louise;

definitely our ancestors. Sophia was born Nov. 10, 1808. and was

living in 1817 in Retschow. She may have been the grandmother or aunt

but because of the age, probably not the mother.

John Carl Koehn and Louise Voss came over on the "Wieland" arriving at Castle Garden, NY (Tip of Manhatten - battery) on November 1, 1890. They came from Hamburg via Le Harvre, France. Their home that they came from was Gro� Dratow, Mecklenburg. The New York passenger list has the following: Carl K�hn age 34, Elizabeth (as in Louise) age 20, Vida age 2 years, Gustau (as in Augusta) age 3 months. One death shown for Elizabeth but no name. They were listed on the ship at "Number 2, Tweendecks".


According to the Palmer List of Merchant Vessels:

The steamship WIELAND was built for the Adler (Eagle) Line by Alexander Stephen & Sons, Glasgow (yard #171), and was launched on 16 June 1874. 3,504 tons; 114,4 x 12,2 meters/375 x 40 feet (length x breadth); straight stem, 1 funnel, 2 masts; iron construction, screw propulsion, service speed 13 knots; accommodation for 90 passengers in 1st class, 100 in 2nd class, and 800 in steerage; crew of 110.

The WIELAND never ran for the Adler Line. The Adler Line, which had been founded in 1873 in direct competition with the Hamburg-America Line (HAPAG), was purchased by the latter company for 11,400,000 Reichsmarks on 7 May 1875, and on 25 June 1875, the WIELAND was transferred to HAPAG control. 7 July 1875, maiden voyage, Hamburg - Havre - New York. 1882, rebuilt; higher superstructure, 2 funnels. 29 August 1894, last voyage, Hamburg-New York. 6 October 1894, 1 roundtrip voyage, Naples-New York. 1895, sold to Ph. A. Lieder, Hamburg and Shanghai; transport in the Chinese-Japanese War. 15 October 1895, seriously damaged by fire at Shanghai. 3 January 1896, sent to Singapore for scrapping

Johnson Road Woman Suffered Stroke Two Weeks Ago.

WARREN'S CORNERS---Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon for Mrs. Augusta Holtz, 50, who died Sunday at her home in the Johnson road, town of Lockport, after suffering a stroke two weeks ago, at the Prudden Funeral Home, Lockport. The Rev. Herman Meier, pastor of Lockport Trinity Lutheran church officiated and burial was in Wright's Corners cemetery.

Mrs. Holtz was born in Germany and came to this country with her parents when she was six months old. Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Raymond C. and William F, both at home; her mother, Mrs. Charlie Heuck; a sister, Mrs. William Heuck, both of Newfane; two brothers, Carl Koehn, of Newfane and Frank Koehn, of Buffalo.

(Bearers were Clarence Covell, John Tall, Forrest Etzel, Walter Brockman, Archie Ferris, and Stanley Putman.)

Frank holtz, 53, well known in Hilton and Hamlin died suddenly at his home in Lockport, on Monday, June 13.

He leaves his wife, Frieda Holtz; two sons, William of Newfane and Raymond of Appleton; two stepdaughters; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. John Kettenburg of Hilton and Mrs. George Engel of Rochesster; two brothers, Fred of Lockport, and William of Newark.

Funeral services are being held today at the Prudden Funeral Home in Lockport.
