John Horobin was interested in being an artist, but worked hard to eventually move his family out of working class to middle class. In 1925, he moved to Detroit, Michigan with his wife and small boy, Anthony. He worked at the Ford Motor Company and another son, Alan, (my father) was born in that city. In 1930, the family moved back to England, where John worked for Ford Motor Company as a supervising manager. John then worked for All Tools, which was an airplane parts company.
