Roxburghshire FreeCEN Project

1861 census

We have just (June 2014) completed transcribing the 1861 census — the final parish is now online. To all who have contributed, a big thank you. Please see the 1861 Progress page for further details.

1841 & 1851 online

As of February 2006, all the parishes relating to the 1841 census have been transcribed, and are available for viewing on the FreeCEN database.

As of June 2007, the last two 1851 parishes to be transcribed were placed into the upload folder for the database and are now available for viewing.

Thank you to all the volunteers who gave up their time to transcribe and check the parishes for each year.

About

The Roxburghshire Free Census Project is part of the larger UK Free Census Project (aka FreeCEN) — creating an online free-to-view database that will enable researchers to view details of UK censuses between the years 1841 and 1891, across census years and counties.

For more information on this project and how to get involved, please read the Project FAQ. For information about becoming a transcriber or a checker, please contact Jan Hall at [email protected]
