HUBBARD, James, the common ancestor of the Kings

The following curious entry is copied from Lib 3
of the Gravesend rec.: "The record

Allowing 30 years for a generation, this would
carry the genealogy of the family back over 4000 years, or to about the time of
Noah's flood. If there is any foundation for the 123 generations, the inference
would be that the ancestors of the Hubbard's were Jews, for they alone through
the Bible trace from Noah to the days of our Saviour, and are the only race who
could be supposed to make a pretence of tracing from that period to
the present time.
There was a James HUBBARD, ag. 27, who emigrated from London to St.
Christopher'[s in 1635, as per p. 80 of Hotten's Emigrants.

Timothy Hubbard/Dorothy Rowley CT/NY c1765-1850,
By Dixie Hansen - Jan 7, 2001
Categories: Connecticut, New York State
It appears that I may have some faulty research to
sort through on Timothy Hubbard and Dorothy Rowley. They're both from Middlesex Co., CT. (b. 1760s). They moved to
Windham, Greene Co., NY and later to Mt. Moris, Livingston Co. NY.
I've done significant research on more recent
generations of this family and am just now starting to track them back. I was told by a prior researcher (who
otherwise has been pretty reliable) that Dorothy was the daughter of Ebenezer
Rowley and Suan Anable and that Timothy Rowley was the son of Timothy Rowley
Sr. and Sarah Bailey. I thought I had
an easy connection back to George Hubbard and Elizabeth Watts.
Dorothy's history may prove out... but I'm more
than a tas suspicious of Timothy's connection to Timothy Sr. as there is other evidence that there is
second Timothy Hubbard, Jr. floating around with better credentials!
In fact... I can find published records of the
marriage of both Timothy's with their respective spouses within a year of each
other. The other one (who married a
Miss Thomas) has a "Jr." attached to his name. "Mine" doesn't. I haven't ordered the film yet to see if
parents are listed in the original church records - but they weren't in the
published resource.
Has anyone got Timothy and Dorothy's connection to
their ancestral family sorted out yet. Wanna save me the sweat? If so, I'd love to hear from you!
Sincerely,
Dixie Hansen
Story of Reba Lamoine Hubbard Rocker,
By - Jun 11, 2000
Categories: New York State
This following story was graciously given me by Janet Rocker
Marmon, daughter of Reba.
Reba Lamoine Rocker Hubbard was born May 8, 1906 in Fowlerville,
Town of Lyonsdale, New York, the 3rd child of George and Cassie Homan Hubbard.
She lived most of her young life with her parents, brother Guy and sister
Doris, in the house on the corner of the Lyons Falls road in the Town of
Lyonsdale. The house is currently owned and occupied by Helen Gydesen. It is
located across the road from the Jones district #3 one room school house. Reba,
Guy and Doris and the other neighborhood children attended grades one through
six at this little school. It is presently being refurbished as a local
historical site of interest by the area Boy Scout troop.
Reba used to go tobogganing with Carol, Hester and Betty Hone at
their home near the Merriam estate which was owned by the girl's parents, Fred
and Augusta (Gussie) Hone. The Hone girls and Ingals attended the little school
on the corner with Reba. Mrs. Hones' brother, Lyman Merriam, had three
daughters, Sally, Florence and Kathleen. These girls did not attend the Jones
district school with the other children. Reba remembers when Fred Hone built a
long low pig barn and the big white house they lived in off the Lyons Falls
road near the Merriam estate. The Hones property is now owned and occupied by
C.Tebsherany.
The big barn, built by Lyman R Lyon in 1860 belonged to the Hones.
Reba used to play "hide and seek" in the big barn with Ingals Fisher,
son of Clarence and Rachel Fisher, the Hone girls, and Katie Shepherd
(VanAlstine). This huge barn was famed by Walter D Edmonds's novel, "The
Big Barn".
Reba used to walk two miles over to the Lyons Falls high school
and to the Presbyterian Church which she joined when she was 12 years old. Her
grandfather, Francis "Frank" Homan had a boat on the Black River
canal. Her father, George Hubbard, tended locks at Lyons Falls and lived in the
lock house. Then he moved to the house on the Lyons Falls road around 1902. He
helped build the Teal house and the one next to it on Laura St. (the Teal house
where Bob and Jean Poore Teal lived when they were first married). Geroge went
to Dolgeville, (beyond Brantingham) and ran a hotel there. George and Cassie
Homan Hubbard's first child, Harold, was accidently shot and killed by his 8
year old cousin Merwin Todd, when he was 4 years old. This tragedy occured at
the hotel while the boys were playing outside. They found a loaded rifle which had
been left in a buggy by one of the guests. They took in summer boarders at the
hotel. Some people went there for their health and Cassie Hubbard contracted
T.B. and nearly died. She was in the first stages and was able to be cured.
George was a guide for hunters and fishermen about 8 years. He also worked for
Fred Hone for a time as a caretaker. He and his family lived in the tenant
house which burned down some time after they lived there.
Reba worked for Mrs. Florence Merriam at the Merriam house on the Lyons
Falls road. At 16 years of age she went to work for Augusta Hone as a waitress.
At 17 years of age she went to work as a nanny for Rachel Fisher, wife of
Clarence Fisher, when they adopted Helena, who was just a baby. Ingals Fisher,
their son, died of strep throat while in the army of Ww II. He was captain of a
negro regiment. Fishers never knew he was sick. They just received word that he
had died of strep throat. He had a closed casket.
Reba married Frederick W Rocker on July 3, 1926 at the Forest Presbyterian
manse at Lyons Falls. They had 4 children, Helena, Janet, Darlene and Frederick
Jr. They lived in Port Leyden most of their married life. Reba passed away at
age 86 on Jan 13, 1993.

MARRIAGES
HUBBARD New York marriages, 1600-1784,

Below is what is offered for the surname Hubbard. (That doesn't mean those were the only marriages
performed in the state, however. Since
these records were local, the ones that reached the state level got recorded
there, and many did not.)
Jeremiah Hubbard m Rebecca Brush on 31 Jan 1682.
Samuel Hubbard m Antje Emens on 12 Mar 1774.
Hannah Hubbard m Hendrick Henderson on 16 May 1770.
John Hubbard m Bethiah Horton on 21 Sept 1782.
Ariantje Hubbard m Adriaen Voorhees on Sept 21, 1782.
Ariantje Hubbard m Jacobus Lake on 28 Oct 1756.
Bernardus Hubbard m Neeltje Lake on 16 Nov 1756.
Catherine Hubbard m Peter Sierget(or Surget) on 7 Apr 1769.
Edward Hubbard m Martha Turner on 2 Mar 1670.
John Hubbard m Mary Tyrrel on 1 Jul 1762.
John Hubbard m Sarah Skilman(or Shilman) on 13 Oct 1762.
These are not in alphabetical or chronological order.
This stuff I printed out has more info about what volume and pg
etc. which I won't bore you with unless one of these people becomes a research
target for you.
Obviously, considering the number of Hubbards in NY, this is far
from complete.
Some
of the given names of the above are rather unique and if you have them in your
lineage you will not confuse them with the more common given names. I wonder where they got these, however; they
certainly do not sound English!!
