103. Gen Jacob TIPTON1 was born on 15 Nov 1790 in Washington Co, TN. He died on 17 Sep 1839 in Covington, Tipton Co, TN. He enlisted in War of 1812 from Greene Co. 1st Rifle Regt. of U.S. Army 12-31-1812; Promoted to 3rd Lt. 3-12-1813 arid to 2nd Lt. 1-1-1814. Made 1st Lt. 11-7-1814 and honorably discharged 6-15-1815. He reinstated 5-17-1816 as 2nd Lt. of 7th U.S. Inf. made 1st Lt. 7-5-1816 promoted to Capt. 6-1-1817 and later Gen. and Brig. Gen. of State Militia.

He moved his family from East Tennessee to Memphis, Shelby County, then known as Chickasaw Bluff. He supervised organization of Shelby County 5-1-1820 and was the first Justice of Peace. In 8-20-1822 he moved to Tipton County, named for his father. The first lots of Covington, the county seat, were sold in 1825. Gen. Tipton made his permanent home here and was known for his kind and generous hospitality and courteous manner. In 1820 he formed the first county seat of Shelby after receiving special commission from State Legislature of Tennessee. He was Chairman of first Tipton County Court 1824-1829 and 1834-1836. Clerk of Circuit Court 1831-1836. List of battles he fought in as follows:

This regiment then seems to have been transferred to the south as it participated in the Battle of Point Peter, Georgia 1-13-1815. Gen. Tipton's regiment did valiant service for it's country, also serving in the Battle of New Orleans.

Gen Jacob TIPTON and Lorina TAYLOR were married in 1818. Lorina TAYLOR (daughter of Nathaniel TAYLOR and Mary (Patton) TAYLOR) was born on 3 May 1800. Gen Jacob TIPTON and Lorina TAYLOR had the following children:
