MAPS of STATES WHERE BETSINGERs RESIDED.

The boundary lines have changed in New York state since its beginnings:

The original county was ALBANY founded in 1683.

Then, TRYON county was founded in 1772 from ALBANY.

TRYON county was renamed MONTGOMERY county in 1784.

HERKIMER county founded in 1791 from MONTGOMERY.

ONEIDA county founded in 1798 from HERKIMER.

SO, when looking for information in New York state, you may need to check these adjoining counties. And thinking that one family remained within the borders of one county will limit your options also.

To view a FANTASTIC animated map of New York state. This MAY help you understand why the confusion in location. County boundaries were changing often, and sometimes, the families didn't move but were in a different county.

Below is a map of New York state. I believe the Betsinger families settled mostly around south of Syracuse of Highway 20.

Below is a nice map of IOWA state, with the counties shown. It will help you see where the Betsinger's settled in Iowa. Nicholas' went to Allamakee county, in the northeast corner of the state. The area in Wisconsin where this family spread to is just across the Mississippi River from Allamakee county. Ebenezer went to Clinton County, on the eastern border of the state. And Abraham went to Bremer county, in the north central portion of the state. Abraham had previously lived in Delaware and Benton counties, which are east of Bremer county. Hope this helps you understand the migration pattern a bit more.

Following is a GREAT state breakdown of the concentration of Betsinger's in the 1920 federal census. Thanks Maggie for sharing it with me.
