Evidence which should allow you to go ahead with investigations about Henrys Alexander Breshears parentage.

If you do not have a chance to check the records further, after they are microfilmed, I would suggest buying the rolls of microfilm for the wills and minutes covering the time of Henrys death and the settlement of his estate. A page by page search of these books might turn up further evidence that was not indexed. (None of the books are particularly well indexed.)

My mother went with me and helped check the deeds. She did not have time to finish checking all of them. She was looking at L350 John Brasier to John N Brashears and she did not have time to abstract it but thought that it said both Were from Lawrence Co. This was in the 1850s so it would seem likely that one of the Johns was your John who was in Missouri at that time.

In the WPA records at the State Archives, Mrs. Whitely lent some entries from Minute Book 1818--1823 but did not include all entries for Brashears. I did not catch this until beginning to review the report so have not been able to check the rest of the entries. Most will probably not be of a great deal of help but you may want to write to the State Library for

p. 156 pertaining to John Brashears and

p. 272 perctaining to Henry BROSHEARS. The other entries are for other Brashears men.

The data on Robert and other Bashams and Brashears should help you eliminate some of them as parents. However , other evidence helps place your your John as the son of Henry Brashears.

It is interest to see that the 1820 Census of Lawrence of Lawrence Co. transcribed by Martha Lou Houston, on p. 9(14) we find:

Census 1820...

p. l0.(14

Henry Beshears WM 2(16-26) 2(45 up) WF 2(10-16) 2(16-26) 2(45 up) Some of Henry Alexander's Breshears children) Here we have the elderly couple living with Henry Alexander Breshears. With John b 1795 still living at home.

Although John b. 1795 in Mar. should be 27 if the census was taken after is birthday, the ages

in the census are not always correct and he seems likely to be one of the males who is 16--26 in the family of Henry Beshears.(John's military papers reflect 1793 and tombstone gives 1795.

Henry appears to be living near the Hogg families, increasing the likelihood that the John who married Neomi is his son.I found no deed for the Hoggs and no entries other that the ones shown.

In Lawrence Co. Tenn. Marriages 1818--38 by Lawrence Co. Historical Society in 1965, p. 2 shows a Bond on 2 Mar 21 for John Brashears and Oma Hogg with William Hughs as bondsman. it seems likely that the 1831 is an error and should read 1821. (Military File gives date as 21 Mar 1821)

These are loose bonds that had been found recently. You may want to write for a copy of the original.

There are also bonds for:

There are other Brashears marriages but none for other children of Henry. Lawrence Co. Tennessee was formed from Hickman Co. and it is possible that deeds were registered in Hickman. However, Hickman records have not been microfilmed (1963) and a trip would have to be made to check for the deeds. WPA deeds to 1813 are available at the Archives but these are negative for Brashears. Many Hickman records have been destroyed and the deeds are about the only records remaining prior to 1840. Therefore a trip to check only the deeds would be rather expensive and it would be best to find some other way to get the deeds checked than to make a special trip. (Anyone got these DEEDS to share?). Researched by Genealogist Evelaline Gibbs for Georgene Humphries 1963©
