Descendants of Edward Burcher or Bezer Earl Of Bath

Fifth Generation

33. William Brashur or Bradshaw (William Bradshawe , William (Burcher) Bezer , Edward Burcher , Edward ) was born on 27 Mar 1675 in of Worcester, Maryland. He died about 1708 in Of Baltimore, Harford, Maryland.

**IT FEELS LIKE THIS WILLIAM SHOULD BE FATHER OF THOMAS BRAZIER (1)**

The Quakers records of Wiltshire,County England, gives a William son of William and Sarah (Coole) as born 27 Mar 1675 (Wiltshire Notes & Inquiries).

(same person as William of Maryland born 27 Mar 167?). The modern Gunpowder River area where William Brasher (Brasur) lived boasts a town named "Bradshaw" and a roadway called "Bradshaw". Bradshaw is the transmuted spelling of Brazier. We need to look closer at this area's records.

WILL:1708...Brasher/Brashier, William (1), was in Baltimore Co., Maryland by 1699 as a taxable in North Gunpowder. He died by 6 Nov 1708 when admin. bond was posted by John Webster, Christopher Cox and Henry Wriothesley; est. inv. 26 Nov 1708 by Richard Ruff(ROSS ?) and Jane Freeman vol. l 1.2.0.; had issue William b 6 May 1696; John b. 13 Jun 1699; James, age 6 Nov 1710 when she (sic) was bound to Sarah or Elizabeth Day; Thomas age 3 (in 1712), when he was bound to John Webster in Jun 1712 (11; 17:135; 21:182;54;128;141)

1754... Presumably it is THOMAS BRAZIER and his wife SARAH CONSTANCE [seen in the SC index to deeds as Thomas & Sarah Bosher, who CONVEYED a total of 7,316 acres [12 TRACTS] to Isaac GOODIN (Goodwin ?). CHARLES BASKER (s/o Who?) , 12 tracts to ISAAC GOODIN also, all in BERKLEY/COLLETON Dist. The SC Computer ID number is the same so they have to be related. [record sent for but not yet received. Thomas Brazier, married his second wife HANNAH in Pitt Co., NC. [IGI-1988; Jerry Johnson research submitted by Roy Forbes].

There must be a family connection between Thomas Breazier of Orange Co., NC., and James Brazier of Cumberland Co., NC. There was a William and Jean (Jane?) BOSHER who left a will in Brunswick Co. NC, 1760-65 (who?). Since Cumberland [1754] and Brunswick [1764], were both taken from Bladen Co., NC, wouldn't it be logical to check this William and Jean as related to Thomas & Sarah Bosher. [We need the will of William and Jean Bosher]. There was an Elijah (of James or William?) in Columbus Co. , NC in 1790 who left a Will. All these families were tucked along the same waterway.

1674...William (if same William?) died about the age of 34 (b 1674-75) and had his WP by 17 Jan 1709-1710. STEPHEN FREELAND & RICHARD RUFF [Ross?] were the administrators. His wife Elizabeth (Clayton?) went to court, had the three children--JOHN, age 9; THOMAS, age 7; JAMES, age 4---put into foster homes, and then returned to ENGLAND. The eldest child, WILLIAM Jr. was about age 12 (b abt 1698 ) at the time and was apparently apprenticed to some farmer or tradesman in the area. He is not mentioned in the court records, but his birth was registered in St. Geo. Parish -where William Brasur of Worcester Co was Warden ? [William Jr. may have been sent away to school
or taken to England by his mother, probably to the Claytons of Chichester England, since it was the custom to provide for the HEIR, with an advantageous education]. Hartford Co., records have been updated by Robert Brasher Jr. and Charles Brashear from Spesutia Church records, 1681-1790, St. Geo., Par., Baltimore MD. [Sep 1990. BQ #11. [Clayton Theory added by GH-1993}.

Here may be the connection that we need to prove the connection for WILLIAM
s/o WILLIAM ( Bradshaw/Brasur) and wife ANN (Mumford) Brazier of Worchester Co., MD. Their son was sent to Prince George Parish as a Warden, assigned from Worcester County Parish-formerly Suskill Parish of. A William's will was witnessed by an ANDERSON as was THOMAS BRAZIER born 1731-coincidence?

This could be the family from which JESSE who married ELIZABETH PRATHER issued. She married George FREELAND after the death of JESSE BRASHEAR of Spanish West Florida - connection to STEPHEN FREELAND not established.

*** RICHARD WHORTON-STEPFATHER OF WILLIAM BRAZIER CONNECTION ***
(Researched by Georgene Eytchison Humphries - 1993/4 )
William Breser apparently, is the son of the William Bradshaw (Brasur) & wife Ann ,( Mumford) ) who left a will-1668. In the will, Ann the widow of William who went by Bradshaw and Brazier, memtions here son James Mumford BRAZIER. -insert. It also appears that William Breser (correct spelling), who was administrator of Richard Whorton's will is William Bradshaw alias Brazier alias Brasur (2) of Worcester Co., MD. There is proof of the relationship between John Bezer the land commissioner, William Beser and Edward Bezer who took land in the Penn grants of PA.(Proven 1995-6 by GH) However, since John Beser brought Elizabeth Clayton as headright to PA and William Beser married her - then William must be a brother (confirmed by Richard Bezer's Will) of John Beser. William Besor would have been an adult by 1682 as indicated by his marriage and the land transfer (see under John Bezer). John Beser may be John Brouchier who appeared in Accomack Co., VA around 1668. Elizabeth Bezer married William Clayton abt 1689 ) also.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
1682... William Besor arrived in PA, about the same time as his brother John Bezer. (Passenger & Immigration lists Index)

*** THE WILLIAM BRASUR - MUMFORD FAMILY CONNECTIONS ***

1761...Worchester Co., MD, St. Martins Parish, pg 75 [GS 924759] On 1 Sep
1761: William Brashur and Jn Mumford were assigned a Pewe (church) number 15 in the Parish Meeting House.

1764...pg 85: 1 May 1764 ...appeared Kendall Collier and Henry Hudson to qualify as Vestrymen. WILLIAM BRAZHER(correct spelling in document) to qualify as "CHURCH WARDING" (sic) at Prince George Chappel. in Worchester County, MD (A Hudson was a son-i-l of John Brazier who died in 1712 of Essex Co., VA.-"CLUE?").
Worcester Parish was erected out of the Parish Snowhill by act of assembly 1744-St. Martin's is the Church's Name. The Whortons, Claytons and Brashers and others were members.

1771...A William and Sarah sold land in Worcester County. Since it appears to be them in Cumberland County NC abt 1751, then this may have been just a transferral of property in Worcester Co. MD.

1768ish...In Fayette County PA, is a TWP called WHORTON. I would appear logical for the descendants of Ann (Widow Brazier) & Rd WHORTON to be associated with her first children viz: William & grandson James Mumford. (Wm married CALVEN?), then removed with the WHORTONS to Fayette Co., PA. That may be why he does not leave many records. This may be the father of William BRAZIER, spouse of Sarah Cox Brazier, listed in the Will of William Cox, in 1784, Spartenburg SC. This colony removed from Old Augusta County VA to NC in the mid 1750s and must be the colony in Cumberland Co. NC, below.
=========================================================================
1751...See WILLIAM BRAZIER (correct spelling BRASUR) who appeared briefly on the deed index of Cumberland County NC., with the heirs of JAMES (Mumford?) BRAZIER. Among other known associates with them are:

...CAPTAIN WILLIAM COX:is in the same area .
...JAMES BLACK: Gr-Father of Hans BLACK is in that area.
...JOHN STEVENS: also took land in Berkley Co. SC, from Worcester Co., MD.
1733 ... (WHORTON connections not researched in this area).

1778...WILLIAM BRASSER, WAKE COUNTY [separated from Cumberland County], 3 Jun, was named as living adj JOSEPH BLAKE entry # 362, on REEDY CREEK, WILLIAM MORGAN'S [Morgans of old Augusta Co., VA-Yohogania Co.], line was adj William Brasser also. Entry 364 is for JOHN LEWIS, south side SWIFT CREEK, WAKE CO., NC. WM CLIFTON'S line is adj. These men are all from Augusta County Virginia, previous to this and from Worcester Co., MD, previous to that.

1754... Thomas, presumably the son of William & Elizabeth (Clayton), THOMAS BRAZIER and his wife SARAH CONSTANCE. [[seen in the SC index to deeds as Thomas & Sarah Bosher conveyed a total of 7,316 acres [12 TRACTS] to Isaac GOODIN. Since Cumberland [1754] and Brunswick [1764], were both taken from Bladen Co., NC, wouldn't it be logical to check this William and Jean as related to Thomas & Sarah. [We need this Will]. There was an Elijah in Columbus Co., NC in 1790 who left a Will. All these families were tucked along the same waterway.

1674...William (of Hartford Co., MD ) died about age of 34 (b 1674-75) and had WP by 17 Jan 1709-1710. STEPHEN FREELAND (Jesse Brasher connection?) & RICHARD RUFF [Ross?] were the administrators.
