Descendants of Edward Burcher or Bezer Earl Of Bath

Eighth Generation

(Continued)

129. Thomas Brasher (Aquilla Brashier , Thomas Brashier , William Brashur or Bradshaw , William Bradshawe , William (Burcher) Bezer , Edward Burcher , Edward ) was born about 1772/1773 in , Chatham, N.C.. He died about 1852 in , Christian, Kentucky.

Information submitted by Margaret Prowse MASON, 109 SO. Jessup Ave., Hopkinsville, Ky.42240 [1969].
...Both my Brashears lines [THOMAS BRASHER & JANE BRASHER ARMSTRONG]
came from GREENVILLE, SC., Hans BLACK, I believe came from same area [comfirmed]. He came here with BENJAMIN ARMSTRONG [spouse of JANE
BRASHEAR]. Several papers in the court house here give names about
someone in GREENVILLE LOOKING AFTER THEIR PROPERTY. They are very faded.
HANS BLACK may have been a senior family member who was looking after
the interests of the HEIRS of the descendants of THOMAS and SARAH
CONSTANCE. The cousins who went to KENTUCKY therefore are hard to sort
out, viz: children of JOHN, WILLIAM [in care of AQUILLA], AQUILLA. The descendants of THOMAS are those who went to ALABAMA. AQUILLA removed to Missouri. Presumably the ORPHANS [ OF william B 1727 ], in his care
would have removed with their cousins to MISSOURI.

Note by GH...Hans BLACK made power of attorney for Jacob BLACK [HIS
FATHER] to look after property for a HENRY BRASHEAR back in GREENVILLE
SC. Hans BLACK had a daughter married to a BRASHEAR. Presumably it was
HENRY BRASHEAR who received land in the Spartenburg SC deed index from
HANS BLACK. [ CHARLES BRASHER said this was SAMUEL ], I guess the proof
is in the proving?

HOGG CONNECTION: Margaret MASON has the same HOGG lineage as GEORGENE HUMPHRIES. JUDITH HOGG [dau of GIDEON HOGG] married JOHN GIBSON
[GEORGENE also has GIBSON lineage] 8 Jun 1799 in Caswell Co. NC. [there
may be a discrepancy here since Gideons HOGGS" WILL in Caswell Co. NC.,
was written in 1793. John GIBSON and wife JUDITH HOGG, along with her
brother GIDEON HOGG JR. settled here in Christian in Co., and The JOHN
GIBSONS died here.
...More from MARGARET MASON...My BRASHERS left France after the massacre
of St. Bartholomew and went to England. They came to America early 1700 hundreds. This was documented by the grandson of THOMAS BRASHER in a
BIOGRAPHY written by him. They were also TORIES and fought for the
South. I feel sure that WILLIAM BRASHEAR with will here [Christian Co],
dated 2 October 1849 and JOHN BRASHEAR, b 8 Nov 1793 died 1 Feb 1848
were connected to my THOMAS BRASHEAR in some way. This same biography
stated that AQUILLA BRAZIER was head of the clan in KY., and that he had several sons, however did not name them. The John and William BRASHER in
this county claimed to be kin to my THOMAS. A DESCENDANT of JOHN BRASHER claimed JOHN was NEPHEW to my THOMAS, and called him Uncle. However my
THOMAS could'nt have been his uncle because of age difference.
[COUSINS?].
...PYLE CONNECTION: Mrs Mason thinks her Aquilla is brother to Sarah
BRAZIER [who married Samuel PYLE JR] dau of Thomas 1, of Orange Co. NC.
She knows Thomas from whom she decends is son of Aquilla BRAZIER
...[that would be old Aqillia born in Harford Co. MD.] Hans BLACK and
Samuel Pyle witnessed the will of Thomas BRAZIER of Orange Co NC. ...
The records of old Dist 96, SC., establish that old Aquilla went to
Kentucky abt. 1804. The Livingston Co. KY., early records are full of
BRASHEAR and variant spellings of the family name. Old Aquilla must have
come first to Livingston Co., then his sons settled in Christian Co
KY... Mrs Mason said there was an Aquilla in Christian Co., KY., in 1810
but he was too young to be father of her THOMAS BRASHER. Margaret has a
LINDLEY line also which BRASHERS married into. [Note: There is SAMUEL
BRASHER with the colony in SC., who transfered land to a SANDIFORD. It
may be a clue to the identity if HANNA SANDIFORD who married SAMUEL
BRASHEAR, son of MATTHEW of BEAVER CO., PA., who pineereda to KENTUCKY. ...JACKSON CONNECTION: CHRISTOPHER JACKSON married first REBECCA CROFT
who was sister to my 3rd great gr. mother, Catherine CROFT , who married
my THOMAS BRASHER. I believe JOSEPH JACKSON [see Spartenburg SC deed
index] was father of Christopher. They came to Hopkins Co KY and Both CHRISTOPHER & JOSEPH JACKSON have wills there. A Mary BRASHER married
JOHN LINDLEY in Hopkins Co KY , 5 Dec 1809 and went to Dade Co.,
Missouri [getting close to home...GH]. Mary was a daughter of Aquilla of
SC. Which one is uncertain. [ GH-NOTE...There is a JOHN LINDSEY'S
[LINDLEY?] will of Maury Co., TN., pre 1820.]

LONG CONNECTION: A JANE BRASHER who was in this Co., married Aquilla
LONG probably some place other than Christian Co. Jane died 8 Jul 1851
age 58 years old.

HAMBY CONNECTION: NANCY BRASHER b 22 Sep 1795 married JAMES HAMBY and
lived someplace in the Christian Co., and also in Hopkins Co KY. She was probably the dau of LAWRENCE BRASHER [ GH-NOTE...I have thought Lawrence
was son of JOHN BRASHEAR? ] who was listed in the family bible. LAWRENCE
died 2 Sep 1847 and his wife Elizabeth died 10 Feb 1855. [see Greenville
Co. SC records]. The bible also named EMSLY HARRISON BRASHER b 9 Jun
1834 and JOSEPH ADDISON BRASHER b 28 Jul 1842. There was no relationship
given. [Note by GH...In the area that became Dade/Polk/Cedar Co.,
Missouri, on the 1840 tax list we find AQUILLA, JOHN and WILLIAM
BRASHEAR. Seems circumstances are converging on the descendants of old
AQUILLA or his brother WILLIAM BRASIER b 1727, who left "ORPHANS", in
his care, as the ones who settled old BENTON CO MISSOURI? ...Mrs Mason
also said ISHAM AND PASCAL BRASHEAR moved from Christian Co and ISHAM
went to CEDAR CO MISSOURI., same general area as Benton Co. [see
"WELDING LINKS", by G.H. for Isham in Cedar Co., MO. and others of
Aquilla's descendants].

Thomas married Catherine Croft daughter of Jacob Croft about 1801 in , Chatham, North Carolina. Catherine was born about 1782 in OF, Chatham, North Carolina. She died in of Christian, Co, Kentucky.

They had the following children:

213 M i Thomas Brasher was born in 1799 in , Greenville, South Carolina.
214 M ii Aquilla H. Brasher was born on 8 Mar 1802 in , Greenville, South Carolina.

This apparently is the Aquilla who, with others of the clan, including
ISHAM who removed to CEDAR CO., MISSOURI. [for land record see JOHN
BRESHEAR, b 1793/5, 'WELDING LINKS" by GH].
215 M iii Alexander Brasher was born on 30 Nov 1803 in , Greenville, South Carolina.
216 M iv Abraham Or Brasier Brasher was born in 1806 in , , South Carolina.
217 M v Larkin T Brasher was born about 1808 in Of, Christian, Kentucky.
218 F vi Elizabeth Brasher was born in 1809 in , Christian, Kentucky.
219 M vii Jacob C Brasher was born on 29 Jan 1811 in , Christian, Kentucky.
220 M viii Isham S Brasher was born about 1814 in , Christian, Kentucky.

Isham Brasher removed to old Benton County Missouri and is located in
the TWP of Cedar. This later became Cedar County Missouri, adjacent Polk
County Missouri where the family of Henry Alexander Breshears settled.
Others of the Aquilla Breshears Clan from Christian County Kentucky seem
to have settled there also. The near proximity of these two families may indicate a near relationship. Mrs. Mason's lineage was from two separate Brashears lineages. We need to remember the two may have removed
together.
221 M ix Paschal D Brasher was born about 1818 in , Christian, Kentucky.
  222 F x Mary A Brasher was born on 3 Feb 1820 in , Christian, Kentucky.
223 F xi Nancy D Brasher was born on 11 Mar 1822 in , Christian, Kentucky.

130. William Pyle (Sarah Brazier , Thomas Brashier , William Brashur or Bradshaw , William Bradshawe , William (Burcher) Bezer , Edward Burcher , Edward ) was born about 1776 in , Chatham, North Carolina.

William married Elizabeth Kirby in 1798 in Christian Co., KY.. Elizabeth was born about 1777 in Of, Christian, Kentucky.

They had the following children:

224 M i William Pyle Jr. was born about 1800 in , Christian, Kentucky.
William married Hannah Standlee in 1821 in Perry Co., Illinois. Hannah was born about 1800 in Of, , Kentucky.

131. Thomas J. Brasher (James Brashear , Thomas Brashier , William Brashur or Bradshaw , William Bradshawe , William (Burcher) Bezer , Edward Burcher , Edward ) was born about 1790 in , , SC. He died in 1837 in Talladega, AL.

It is pointed out that there is another THOMAS R. BRASHER in the county
who married 30 Oct 1827 - not identified.
The "Will" which was to be administered by Bailess, son-in-law, was not completed when Bailess left (going where?, to Texas perhaps?). Elizabeth and her husband Allen Killough brought suit againt Bailess at this point. Thomas J.'s children are named, 9 in all, in this settlement. (see on charts).

He had the following children:

  225 F i Nancy Brasher.

The husband of Nancy - Bailess Brasher, who was administrator of her
father's will, ran away (went from that area-probably to Texas with his father), after completing the administration.
Nancy married Bailess Brasher son of William C or S Brashears and Mrs. Brasher on 20 Dec 1837.
  226 F ii Elizabeth Brasher.
        Elizabeth married Living.
  227 M iii Allen Brasher.
        Allen married Living.
228 F iv Jane Scicilly Brasher.
  229 M v Jeptha Brasher.
  230 F vi Mellisa Brasher.
  231 M vii Henry Brasher.
232 F viii Martha Ann Brasher.

This child was living with David Owen in Columbiana in 1850. She was 14
years of age at that time.
  233 F ix Brasher.

A daughter of Thomas J. Brashear was married to Bailess. If this is Bailess Brashear, then we have the connection to the Texas descendants of Bailess Brashears son of James M. Brashears.

132. James M Brasher (James Brashear , Thomas Brashier , William Brashur or Bradshaw , William Bradshawe , William (Burcher) Bezer , Edward Burcher , Edward ) was born on 25 May 1810 in Of, , South Carolina. He died on 25 Jan 1855 in Angelina Co, TX.

James was still alive and shows on the 1850 US Cenus of Talladega Co.,
AL. There was another JAMES BRASHER in Shelby Co., AL, 1850, age 63 (1783) who must not be confused with the two James Brazier/Brasher men above.

This James would have served in the War of 1812 and therefore probably went to Arkansa to take his land grant. The James M. Brashear ( associate of Bailess) of Texas could be him.

Article by Annie Lee Jones Nutt - James M. "Jim" Brashear [s] and family
came to Texas from Old Royal Colony , White Co., AR abt 1845, and
settled in Jonesville, along with the Martin Jones family . Jim was a
farmer and stockman. He had a survey of land near Jonesville. His brand
was 10 (1810), the year of his birth. It was registered in Angelina Co., TX, 15 Jun 1855, and was transferred to his wife, Maribe Brashear [s] on 15 Jan
1856.

Jim and Maribe Brashear moved to the Redland Community in Leon County,
Texas along with their daughter, Lucinda [Mrs James S. Neyland], and her family, sometime after the war. They lived there for many years and are probably buried with other family menbers in the Centerville Cemetery. Information on this family has been difficult to research. The children
listed are the best I could figure out - Annie Nutt.
[merged as son of James & Sithey Cox Brashear - 1993 by GH - not proven]

James married (1) Mary Elizabeth Maribe Jones daughter of Martin William Jones Gobbler and Rhoda Hodges in 1826/1827 in Of, Tennessee Or Alabama. Mary was born on 26 Mar 1813 in Of, , Tennessee. She died after 1860 in pro Jones Cem., Huntington, Angelina, TX.

They had the following children:

+ 234 M i Jackson M. Brashear
235 F ii Melinda Brashear was born about 1833 in Old Royal Colony, White, Arkansas.

The dates of marriage are for licences that were issued, it is not known
if she married.

Annie Nutt note: It was not known if she married either as the date was
for the issuance of the license.
Melinda married (1) Bradford Baker on 5 Apr 1849 in Polk, TX. Bradford was born about 1831 in Of, , Texas.
Melinda married (2) Bentley Barnett on 18 Aug 1849 in Tyler, TX.
+ 236 M iii John M. Lt. Brashear
+ 237 M iv Jesse Or James Or Marion Brashear
+ 238 M v Walker Jesse Brashear
+ 239 F vi Lucinda Brashear
240 M vii Berry M Brasher was born about 1840 in Old Royal Colony, White, Arkansas.

Berry served in Company D, 7th TX Cavalry, "The Angelina Troops" under
General Sibley. It was organized at Homer, Angelina Co., later known as
General Green's Brigade. Berry later moved to Freestone Co., TX.
Berry married Susana Everett on 12 Aug 1860 in Angelina, TX. Susana was born about 1842 in Of, , Texas.
241 F viii Rhoda E. "RE" Brashear was born about 1842 in Old Royal Colony, White, Arkansas.

James Moore served with his bro-in-Laws in the 7th TX Cavalry, from
Angelina Co. After their long march into New Mexico James was left in a hospital in El Paso where he had Typhoid Fever. He was taken prisoner
there.
Rhoda married James Berry Moore about 1858/1860. James was born about 1840.

James served fwith Rhode's brothers in Company D, 7th TX Calvary.
242 F ix Fetna Brashear Fannie was born about 1846 in Old Royal Colony, White, Arkansas.

William volunteered for service on 31 Mar 1862, in Angelina Co., and
served with the 22nd, TX, Infantry under Capt. Brown's Company
Fetna married William R. Selman on 11 Feb 1862 in , Angelina, Texas. William was born about 1843 in Of, , Texas.
243 M x Robert Brashear was born about 1847 in Jonesville, Angelina, Texas.
Robert married M. E. Hill on 30 Oct 1892 in Angelina Co., TX. M. E. Hill was born about 1845.

He had the following children:

  244 M xi Living
  245 M xii Living

140. William Brazier (William Brazier , James Mumford Brazier , William Brashur or Bradshaw , William Bradshawe , William (Burcher) Bezer , Edward Burcher , Edward ) was born about 1773 in , Surry, North Carolina. He died before 1813.

This death date from Charles Brasher would eliminate the WILLIAM BRASHER
of Lawrenceburg TN., who had exempt tax poll and left heirs in charge of
ROBERT BRASHER.

William married Mrs. Brazier about 1760 in Surry Co., North Carolina.

Sarah COX and her husband WILLIAM BRAZIER [BREASHEAR], are named as
parents by NANCY BRESHEAR [BOSHEAR], in the Court records in Kentucky.
This is proof of the WILLIAM BRAZIER who died 1789, as being husband to
SARAH COX.

William and Mrs. Brazier had the following children:

246 M i James Brazier was born about 1760/1761 in of Shoal Creek, Iredell, North Carolina.

1800...Iredell Co., NC lists JAMES; WILLIAM & JOHN BEAHER sic BRAZER?
247 M ii Harris Brazier was born about 1762 in of Shoal Creek, Iredell, North Carolina.
+ 248 M iii David Brazier
