Irv Mitchell's QUEST - ANCESTRY

Ancestry

On the paternal side - English, primarily the Midlands, well seasoned with Welsh and Scot blood. A multitude of paternal forefathers were Quaker. Most left England, a few left Ireland (after a brief sojourn there), in the 1680s, travelled the mighty sea and set to farming in the Province of Pennsylvania (the majority in the counties of Chester and Bucks, with a few families settling in New Castle Co., Delaware). My paternal ancestors remained in the Philadelphia area until 1946, when my father left Chester Co. and moved to Armstrong Co., in the western part of the Commonwealth.

On the maternal side - my CLEVER , HAAG / HAG / HAWK , DORNE / TURNEY and WALDHAUER / WALTHOUR / WALTOUR / WOLDHAUR lines are German. My STARR family is also German, coming to Pennsylvania from Virginia. Most of my known maternal lines were in place in western Pennsylvania (in Westmoreland Co. and what would become Armstrong Co.) before 1800. There they were to remain.

It was in Kittanning, beside the Allegheny River, where my paternal lines and my maternal lines met, and became one.
