Irv Mitchell's QUEST - a genealogy site - What's New?

29 May 2006

SIGH - The much hoped for 'always current' links page is but a dream. I gave up long ago. It is what it is. Many of the links are active, many are but a memory. A link has been added to the Grave Site for the Lorraine American Military Cemetery in St. Avold, France. Meanwhile, the Echoes of the Past page continues to be updated weekly. Other projects are still pending.

08 Oct 2004

Work has begun on an update of the links page - an ever on-going process, I fear. I may work on updating the colors, too. Additional updates to other pages are anticipated in the near future.

06 to 10 Oct 2003

Updates and corrections were made on the Surnames page. The Tiny Tafel was updated. Corrections were made within the Ahnentafel pages - a PDF version was added and revisions of the annotated ahnentafel are underway.

20 - 27 Sep 2003

Additional photos were added to the Grave Site. And my Ahnentafel page was updated to include links to additional grave site photos.

20 - 22 May 2003

An overdue review of the site has begun. Pages are being updated with additional information. This process is on-going.

04 Nov 2002

The database, an important part of this site for over four-and-one-half years, has been suspended. It has proven impossible to maintain.

28 Aug 2001

All links on the links page have been verified as active and updated as needed. A major chore, but long overdue.

14 Apr 2001

A recent visit to Kittanning, the Armstrong Co. Courthouse, the Mildred Lankerd-Thomas Genealogy Library and the Armstrong County Genealogy Club (ACGC) has revealed new information on the BOWSER family and a tentative identification on my CAMPBELL line. I've also found a lead to pursue regarding my ANDERSON family. Additional wills were also found regarding my more ancient BUFFINGTON line. Pages, in time, will be updated to reflect the new information.

30 Dec 2000

My Tiny Tafel has been updated to reflect more recent information.

04 - 05 Dec 2000

The much delayed/put-off update of my Ahnentafel was done. A number of additional names finally appear, and a few minor stylistic abberations have been corrected.

27 Nov 2000

Downloadable files were changed on the Echoes of the Past page. A weekly rotation is scheduled to begin 03 Jan 2001, with files remaining posted for aprox. four to five weeks before rotating out.

07 - 12 Sep 2000

Several newly discovered surnames (Ammeling, Bender, Hill, Knoden, Merkel, Schump, and Stephans) have been added to the Surnames page. These families were all located in Pfalz, Bavern, Germany. Also a new will - for John Jacob Hill (1716-1776). Guess this means I need to work on updating my ahnentafel next.

20 Jun 2000

Confusion caused by multiple topics on a single page has been resolved. Ancestry, Database, Great & Grandparents and Kin on the Web are now separate pages and are linked accordingly.

01 - 03 Apr 2000

A new page. ECHOES OF THE PAST - A chance to relive, and better understand, days gone by through contemporary recordings.

21 Nov 1999

Four more wills have been added to the Last Wills & Testaments page - those of Seven Barley, Elizabeth Barley Fowler, Benjamin Barley, and Anthony Stroud, Jr.

28 Oct - 4 Nov 1999

Irv Mitchell's QUEST has a new home at RootsWeb. The site's move to Go Network was a complete disaster. The site was down for over two-and-one-half weeks in the past months due to problems at Go Network. I found this unacceptable and decided to move the site once again. It is my hope that this move to RootsWeb is permanent. The site was fully functional a few minutes before 1:00 a.m. MST 04 Nov 1999.

12-19 August 1999

The ahnentafel pages went through an update and a slight format change. The ahnentafel remained on-line throughout the process.

10 August 1999

My apologies to those of you who have tried to visit in the past week. the Go Network experienced problems of a serious nature sometime on 03 or 04 August. This site, and many others, were down for the next five days. If this turns out to be a chronic problem, I will have to consider moving the site again (see below).

09 July 1999

If you're a regular visitor, you may have noticed a few changes in the last week. This site was moved from Yahoo! GeoCities to the Go Network. All the pages have now been moved, the links all seem to work, and within 24 hours the search index will be recrawled and accurate. If you have a link to one of my pages, you will need to update your link (however, I will leave the old pages on the other site for another few weeks). If you spot a broken link that I may have overlooked, please let me know.

30 June 1999

New information has come on two fronts - the REAGAN family and the STARR family, pushing each further back in time. So, I have several "new" direct lines to search out - CADNEY, NOYES, and WILY off the REAGAN line and BRICE, HOFFMAN and AUE NIE (a Seneca line) off my STARR / STUHR line.

03-11 June 1999

Work on placing lineages within the surnames page was completed. Also more photos were added to the Walthour photo page.

02 June 1999

Working drafts of great-grandparents pages for Warren & Mary Mitchell were posted and linked appropriately. The SURNAMES section of the main page was severed and made a separate page. A list identifying the families in time and space was begun as part of that page.

17-18 April 1999

Several changes in the last few days. A HAAG / HAG / HAWK surname page was begun. Also the site joined the Westmoreland Co. History and Genealogy WebRing and the Eastern Pennsylvania WebRing. Minimal changes were made to the page layout due to the additions.

06 March 1999

The page formerly known as Photo / Image Album was renamed Image Gallery and appropriate links were updated.

January 1999

During the first week of 1999, the Ahnentafel pages were reformatted and expanded to contain more text. A resources section, was created incorporating the existing genealogy bibliography page and new pages identifying contributing individuals and one noting abbreviations used.

1997 & 1998

Irv Mitchell's QUEST - a genealogy site first appeared on the web 27 Nov 1997 as a GeoCities site. The on-line database appeared at the end of March 1998. "But NOT forgotten" pages were added 23 Sep 1998. Major additions came in the photo album section following the death of Robert T. Mitchell. The album was extentsively reworked through the fall of 1998, adding family photo pages and a page for gravesites.
