Loretta Margaret Walthour was the eldest child of Walter and Mary (Clever) Walthour. Born
in Kittanning, she was raised in the home of her grandmother, Anzonette (Turney) Walthour.
During the course of her marriage, she had six surviving children, five sons and a daughter (an
infant son and a daughter died immediately after birth), Loretta was a gold star mother in World
War II, losing her eldest son to the Nazis in December 1944.
Rhett had a sunny disposition and delighted in the two grandchildren born during her lifetime.
Her eldest grandaughter remembers being allowed to braid her Grandma Starr's dark, long, luxuriant
hair.
Loretta's heart gave out in November 1952 on the eve of Gen. Eisenhower's landslide presidential
victory. She is buried at her husband's side in Kittanning Cemetery.
