NORTH BROWN CEMETERY

The historical marker text: for The North Brown Cemetery Marker Number: 3606
Location:From Goldthwaite, take SH 16 about 5 miles north, then go west on local road 1 mile,then north 1 mile on second local road.

Marker Size: 18: x 28" erected 1976

Named for creek followed by homeseekers, this burial ground originated about 1857 when death struck at a nearby campsite. In the 1870s North Brown farming community surrounded this site. It had a school and held church services in the schoolhouse. In 1895 local leaders A.A. Boulter, G.M. O'Quin, and J.S. Weatherby secured a deed to the acreage in which graves had so long existed, and the North Brown Cemetery Association was formed. After school had closed, proceeds from sale of its site were pledged in 1967 for cemetery care. Pioneer families continue burials here.

General Photos of the cemetery

I have started surveying this cemetery in 1998 but due to health reasons was unable to complete it until June 1999

The Legend is as follows;

TYPE

Number = a number I assigned as I did each headstone, so I would know who was next to who
DS = Double Headstone
SS = Single Headstone
FM = Funeral Home Marker (whenever possible, Funeral home name will be in "Notes/Other") However I have learned that someone from the Cemetery Assoc had Funeral Markers made up from the local funeral home and placed on the unknown and other graves and are not necessary the funeral home that handled the arrangements.
N/A = Not known
Rock = Sandstone or other type rock marker

I have made all attempts to avoid mistakes, but I am after all only human, If there are any errors, I am truly sorry and will make note of any errors brought to my attention.

* Ann (a cousin) is researching this family and if you have any information to share, or would like to ask her for more information about Robert Brown and his family. Please drop me a line and I will see that she gets it. I will pass on any queries to Ann. (Robert Brown is also related to my husband).

Sadly, Ann has had to deal with a person, who has harrassed her by e-mail, and is trying to interfere with Ann's research etc.

Ann has tried to accommodate this person but since this person has started the harrassment, Ann has tried to block her email and even had to change her email address, and she is not putting her email on line, until this matter is setteled. So if you would like to leave Ann "a query or information only "about this family, send it to me and I will see she gets it Please Forward to Ann

Possible Indentifcation of Ida Osborne

Subject: Re: OSBORNE IN CEMETERY
Date: Mon, 12 Jul 1999 19:25:31 -0500
From: "Helen Boydston"
To:

Hi Sharon-

thought I would try to help you out for a change. In looking over the cemetery listing the Ida Osborne at #291 could possibly be the Ida Tally who married my Frank Osborne.

He was born 4 Mar. 1856 and married an Ida Tally on 6 Oct. 1886. Since you have no dates I just thought it might be possible. I looked for other people named Tally in the cemetery and saw none so it may be thats the wrong one. Just thought I`d let you know.

Helen Boydston. [email protected]

NOTE: Helen is also researching The Boydston's, Crawford's and the Smith's that are buried in this cemetery

Ida could also be related to Ruby/Rubbe Osborn either as an Aunt, Sister, etc. See notes below

Troy Wayne Garner

Transcribed with permission from the Goldthwaite Eagle-Mullin Enterprise Microfilm Copy (Poor reverse Image) dated Friday July 10, 1927

TROY WAYNE GARNER

The Little three year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Garner died the 2nd day of July in Brownwood there he had been carried for medical treatment. He was sick only a few days. The funeral was held at Trigger Mountain Church and a large circle of loved ones were present, Sunday afternoon. He was interred at North Brown Cemetery.

"An Angel was need in Heaven that day.
That's why God took him away.
We are sad and lonesome,
it's hard to say,

God knows best.
Yet he has gone to eternal rest;

Troy Wayne lives with the angels in the sky,
where love and happiness never die.

Let us live, let us hope and pray
that we will meet him at the end of a perfect day."

NOTE's for Rubbe Osborn(e): Rubbe is the daughter of Rube and Elam Harman?? Ausborn and was born in Dublin, Texas. At first I thought the death was from some sort of accident as the cause of death was listed as "Cerebral Hemorhage due to fracture at base of skull" on the Mills County TX death certificate Book 1, Page 10.

I have since learned that she was murdered and a murder trial was held but I have to do a little more research to see if the defendant was found guilty or aquitted before I write more. The Radio Station KGKB actually broadcasted the trial- Probably one of the first Broadcast trials going on at the time.
