Sorry to disappoint CeCe in TN, but her amateur opinion as to whether the dresses match (on p.4 of the photo comparison section of my book, "James L. Courtney's mother and Jesse James' mother") is dead wrong.

The photos in question were scanned through a highly sensitive computer at the Texas DPS (State Police) that is so sensitive it can lift finger prints off of material. The computer proved that the print and pattern, including the collar, are an exact match. The internationally known forensic artist that examined the photos also confirmed that the dresses match. This forensic artist has appeared on "America's Most Wanted," there is no doubt as to her qualifications.

As to the photos of "Jesse and Frank" pictured on the cover of Phillip Steele's, Jesse and Frank James: The Family History, I don't believe the men are Jesse and Frank James. Please read Phillip Steele's and George Warfel's "The Many Faces of Jesse James", and I believe you will see for yourself that many of the photos pictured in that book, that are claimed to be Jesse James, don't match the most famous photo of Jesse James at all (see pg. 3 of my book). This finding begs the question, why aren't Steele and Warfel using experts in facial identification and computer analysis to authenticate THEIR photos? Wafel stated in writing that I should consider the assessment by the Texas DPS as irrefutable.

Do you really believe that your opinion of the photo's in question is more creditable than the assessment made by the Texas Department of Public Safety?

Thank for paying CAREFUL attention to my book, I really appreciate it.

Betty Dorsett Duke

Disclaimer and Message from David Hedgpeth:

Dear Reader,

The purpose of the letters and responses I have written on the Jesse James-James L. Courtney controversy is to fully and fairly examine all sides of the issue. It is a good possibility that my family in Texas is linked to Jesse James and James L. Courtney, so I have a driving personal interest to know the truth. For future generation and our peace of mind I feel moved to see this process to the end. My opinions and viewpoints today will modify as new information comes forth. Likewise, I hope all can say and mean that. Sometimes I may be wrong. If I make a statement in error, let me know and I will gladly correct it. If though it is a difference of opinion, then all are entitled to their own. I try to be careful in criticizing only the issues and not individuals. It may seem at times I am getting close to that but that is not my intent because doing so would be unproductive. I do try to engage everyone to broaden their perspective and work together for a common good to find the whole truth on this important family and historical issue.

I invite your input pro or con on the Genforum or to me directly. If you have an interest, then your help is needed.

Thanks to all,

David Hedgpeth
