NOTE:  IONE STROUD had a son from a previous marriage to Luther Gilliam, his name is Charles Luther Gilliam.  Charles Elbert Gilliam was married to Dolores Richardson and they had 4 children; Charles Luther Gilliam, Lori Rae Gilliam, Robert Gilliam, Dan Gilliam.

NOTE:  August Arnold immigrated with my grandfather Ernst Arnold to America from Switzerland in 1907.

Herbert and Henry were twins
August and Freda were married in 1914, Rochester, New York

Werder, laut Eintrag im hiesigen Burgerregister Band I Seite 442 Burger der Stadt Basel ist & als solcher auch die schweiz Staatsangehorigkeit besitzt (Art. 43 der schweiz. Bndersverfassung" Jeder Kantonsburger ist Schwiezerburger") Diase Beschainigung wird dem Genannten verabfolgt, zum Zweeks seiner beaabsichtigten Auswanderung nach Nordamerika. Urkundlich dessen haben wir gegenwartiges Zeugnis unter Beidruckung unsers  Gemeindesigels ausgestellt Basel, den 20, Aoruk 1907 Namens des Burgerrats der Burgerratsschreiber:  signed Seal reads Burger Gemeinde Basel

Dear Jan,  Your Ernst Arnold is a certified Citizen of the City of Basel (which is also a Half Kanton, the other Half being Rural Basel = Kanton Baselland), as attested by the " President and Citizen Council of Basel City" in their "Citizen Register Vol.1 p.442 of Citizens of the City of Basel". Which makes him also a Citizen of the country of Switzerland (Art.43 of the Swiss Federal Constitution , "every Kanton's Citizen is a Swiss Citizen").  Hanneli

Yes, what you found is what you were looking for: the Heimatort of Ernst Arnold is the city of Basle.  I'm not fluent in the technical wording but I'll try a translation:

"We, president and council of the citizens of the city of Basle certify herewith that ERNST ARNOLD, born March 13, 1892, son of Lukas August (Arnold) and Anna, maiden name Werder, is according to the list of citizens, volume I, page 442, citizen of the city of Basle. As such he also holds the Swiss nationality (article 43 of the Swiss Constitution: "Each citizen of a Canton is Swiss citizen"). This certificate is given to the above-mentioned because of his planned emigration to North-America. This certificate has been issued in Basle, August (??) 20, 1907 For the council of citizens its secretary: ..."

One remark: Aoruk is not a german month. It might be either August or April.  Hope this helps, Franz
