HAYS/HUNTER/CRABTREE/WALDEN: Date July 11, 2001 -Subject: NICHOLAS HAYS - Janice, Enjoyed viewing your website today on The Hays/Sims Families!!! Nicholas Hays and Ally Hunter were my paternal great-great-great-great grandparents. Three of their sons, William Thomas Hayes, James Arthur Hays, and Samuel Hays, Sr., each named a son Nicholas. There are three Nicholas Hays branches:
William Thomas Hayes and Nancy Angus
Their son, Nicholas Hays married Elizabeth Bare
James Arthur Hays married Elizabeth Clayton
Their son, Nicholas Hays married Rachel Black
Samuel Decatur Hays, Sr. and Rachel Huff
Their son, Nicholas Hays married Zillah (Zilly) Crabtree - My great grandfather, Thomas Hughell Walden married their daughter, Rachel Hays (This is my Walden/Hays line on my fathers side of the family). Our family claims that we are related to Capt. John Coffee "Jack" Hays. I have never been able to document it. However, after viewing your website, I now see a possible connection. Please review all of my information and let me know what you think?

Pea Ridge/Elkhorn: Date August 24, 2001 - I believe that the 1st Arkansas Cavalry (Union) was also at Pea Ridge - unless, because it was mustered in Missouri, this is the 1st Cavalry you mention after Missouri in your history. (You asked on your website if anyone knew of other units to contact you.) This is a very well done history of the battle. My great grandfather was there as a private soldier in the 1st Arkansas Cavalry. I remember being taken to walk Pea Ridge as a child - both my parents were from the Ozarks - and told that my great grandfather had been there. Remember trying to imagine what his first battle must have been like for him and his brother.

HAYS/FISER/DAIMWOOD/KILCREASE/BUTLER/LYON-HUNT/HARRISON: Date July 11, 2001 -Subject: Hays Family of Robertson County, TN - Hello, I am very impressed with the research on the numerous Hays families out of Virginia shown on your website. I'm afraid I have hit a brickwall with my Hays ancestors. They came out of Virginia and settled in Robertson Co.,Tn in 1805. I have no clue as to what county in VA they came from, but feel that Augusta and Rockbridge Counties may be the place to start. By 1835 all these Hays families had left Robertson Co. and had settled in Maury, Henry, and Weakley Counties in TN. The following is a list of the Hays family I am working on. I have collected numerous deed records and court records, and feel most if not all of them are siblings. If any of these rings a bell, I would appreciate hearing from you.
1. Anna Hays (1774-1867), m. Henry Fiser, sons named Pleasant Idell, Willis Andrew, and Archibald J. Fiser. They moved to Henry Co.,TN ca 1832. Some of the family moved to Weakley Co. by 1843. Anna Hays Fiser died in Weakley Co.,TN. She is my 4X great-grandmother.
2. Female Hays (ca 1776?-1810), m. Jacob Daimwood (1776-1845), they moved from Robertson to Maury Co. in 1808, along with William and James Hays.
3. Robert Hays (ca 1780-1836), m. twice, moved from Robertson to Henry Co.,Tn in 1825. Lived near town of Como.
4. William Hays (ca 1781-after 1857), m. Sarah ?, moved from Robertson to Maury Co. in 1808, moved back to Robertson Co. in 1812, moved to Henry Co.,Tn in 1821. Had a grandson named Campbell Hays.
5. James Hays (ca 1785-1822), m. Elizabeth Kilcrease, moved from Robertson to Maury Co. in 1808.
6. Elizabeth Hays (ca 1788-after 1850), m. John Butler, lived in Maury Co. most of her life, this family lived near the Hays and Daimwood families in Maury Co.,TN
7. David Hays (1790-1858), m. Emily Harrison, moved from Robertson to Weakley co.,TN in 1832
8. Samuel Hays (1791-1875), m. Elizabeth (Lyon) Hunt, moved from Robertson to Maury Co.,TN ca 1816. moved back to Robertson Co.,Tn in 1823, moved to Henry Co. ca 1832, moved to Weakley Co. ca 1838.
Anna Hays Fiser, David Hays and Samuel Hays were all buried at Powell Cemetery in Weakley Co.,TN. The names Francis and Butler have been passed down through different lines of the family. Continued good luck on sorting out your Hays ancestors in Rutherford and Wilson Co.,TN. Your website is a great asset to anyone reseraching the Hays familes in Middle TN.
Sincerely,
Bill Dahnke

Civil War Pea Ridge: Date April 02, 2004 - Hi, My gggrandfather, Captain, William Henry Irvin, Union Army, fought at the Battle of Pea Ridge. I understand he was in the 15th NW Arkansas Infantry. He was from Tennessee. He died 3 days after the war ended, on this way home. Some confederate women, who had not heard the war was over, fed him and 3 or 4 of his men, poison pies and they all died. Sad to have made it thru the Battle of Pea Ridge, to die on their way home, this way. Your website was great. Thank you for all your research on The Battle.

Yvonne

Battle of Pea Ridge - Elk Horn Tavern: Date: July 23, 2004: Janice Castleman, I sure did enjoy your page about the Battle of Pea Ridge. I once gave a speech about it. My ancestor, about whom you wrote, General James McIntosh, was killed there.
Thanks,

Ken McIntosh

Hays family tree: Date: August 12, 2004: Hello! I have been enjoying searching out more information about my Hays roots, and came across your wonderful web page. My aunt did alot of research years ago, and I am enjoying finding out more, as the internet opens a treasure trove of links.
Here is some of our family history - all my grandparents, which definitely links to yours in ways I can't quite figure out yet:
John "Jack" Hays - Mary Donaldson, m. c1808 Wilson Co. TN
Samuel Marshall Hays - Caroline West m. Feb. 20,1842 Dover AR
Samuel Chandler Hays - Maria Lonergan m. April 30, 1879 Van Buren, AR
Samuel Thomas Hays - Stella Meisch m.April 14, 1913, Muskogee OK
My Parents:Samuel Norman Hays-Irene Mouzakis m.Oct. 20,1949 San Francisco, Ca
My aunt theorizes that John "Jack" Hays was possibly Colonel Robert Hays' brother, but I'm not so sure about that. Anyway, just thought I'd send this piece of our puzzle on to you. Thanks for all your great links and info!

Susan Hays

Lees in Arkansas - Date: March 12, 2007 - Hello Janice, I have Malinda Lee (wife of William Dudley Lee) and her two youngest children dying in Benton Co. Arkansas during Aug and Sept of 1883. I realize there were always lots of diseases - diphtheria, typhoid, etc. - that could decimate a family, but I'm wondering if you know of any general epidemics that occured during that period? Thanks - and happy hunting. I enjoyed your lovely website. Lorrell

Ford/Freeman and Hannah Elva - Date - May 11, 2009 - I found your site and thought this might be of help, although I think you have more info than we do at this point. Not writing much since I've no idea if this email is correct, but will gladly share any information we have. Yours is definitely interesting! http://fronfamily.com/ancestry/individual.php?pid=I905&ged=fron.ged The information we have on Elva Hannah, (Hannah Elva?) is what is out there (Grayson County). The little information we have came down from an oral history from my Grandmother, Cynthia Artie Morris, daughter of Mary Ora Freeman. My aunt may have some other documents lying about (they still live on the homestead property in Ranger) so I'll give her a call/drop her a note today and check on that. We've still a bit of information that hasn't made it into the tree just yet and Grayson County has quite the number of cemeteries. We also have Martha Philpot, mother of Matilda Gentry buried in Grayson County, but unfortunately, no information there, either aside from the county. I'm sorry we couldn't have been more help, but will check. Please keep us up to date with your discoveries, and we will definitely do the same.
I appreciate your time, Janice! -Christine
