The 1830 Census listed the name of only the head of each household (unfortunately relegating the rest of us to just numbers :-) The list here is Big River Township as it was in early November of 1830 when Falkland H. Martin went through and recorded everyone. The population totals for Big River were: 263 white males, 227 white females, 30 male slaves and 28 female slaves. I've added the numbers for the families I'm connected to; Clifton Mothershead is my great-great- grandfather. As I have time, I will try to fill the others in also.

The column headings for 1830 were:
Males - under 5, 5-10, 10-15, 15-20, 20-30, 30-40, 40-50, 50-60, 60-70, 70-80, 80-90, 90-100, over 100;
Females - under 5, 5-10, 10-15, 15-20, 20-30, 30-40, 40-50, 50-60, 60-70, 70-80, 80-90, 90-100, over 100

In the listing below, a dash (-) indicates a column left blank. So in the household of Jacob Wideman, Sr., there are no males under 5, none in the 5-10 category, none in the 10-15 age range, two males who are between the ages of 15 and 20, one who is 20-30, and one male in the 40-50 category; the family also has one female under 5, two females between 5-10, two in the 10-15 age range and one female who is between the ages of 30 and 40.
