Dora Lemaster Adams, 87, died Friday, February 23, 2001, at Mountain Manor
Nursing Home. Mrs. Adams was born November 10, 1913, in Magoffin County,
to the late Luther and Sola Patrick Lemaster Wheeler. She was also preceded
in death by her husband, Toy Adams, in May 1975; and a son, Billy Ray Adams.
Surviving are one son, Roger Lee Adams of Paintsville; two daughters, Betty
Lou Adams Baldridge and Barbara Faye Adams Auxier, both of Paintsville;
and four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Monday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel,
with Bill Underwood officiating. Burial followed in Adams Family Cemetery
at Salyersville. PH

Thomas Lee Auxier,
56, of Salyersville, died Friday Feb.16 2001 in St. Mary's Hospital in
Huntington, W.Va. Mr. Auxier was born Sept. 7, 1944, in Johnson County,
a son of Christine Kazee Auxier and the late Carson Auxier. He was a member
of Fish Trap United Baptist Church. Additional survivors include three
brothers, Joseph C. Auxier of Crown City, Ohio, Phillip L. Auxier of Rochester,
N.Y., and Kenneth D. Auxier of Rockledge, Fla.; and a sister, Carolyn Sue
Banner of Hilliard, Ohio. The funeral was at 1 p.m. today at Magoffin County
Funeral Home Chapel in Salyersville by Matthew Gullion and Buster Blanton.
Burial was in Williams Cemetery in Mash Fork.

Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Alta Powers Blair, 77, who
died Thursday, February 8, 2001, at Highlands Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Blair was born July 11, 1923, in Johnson County, to the late Braden
and Nannie Spencer Powers. She was also preceded in death by her husband,
Cecil Blair, on April 20, 1992. Surviving are two sons, Dean and Wilbur
Blair, both of Leander; one half sister, Glenna Doris Turpin of Paintsville;
and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were
held Saturday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Revs. Ray Church
and Willie Goble officiating. Burial followed in Cecil Blair Memorial Cemetery
at Leander. PH

County resident Basil Blair, 72, died Friday, February 16, 2001, at Mt.
Carmel West Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Blair was born March 25, 1928,
at Barnetts Creek, to the late Lacy and Lelia Baldwin Blair. He was retired
from Goodyear Atomic Corporation of Piketon, Ohio, was baptized at the
Barnetts Creek United Baptist Church in January 1948, was ordained to the
ministry in January 1961 and was a member of Beaver Valley United Baptist
Church. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Sue Blair.
Surviving are his wife, Madge Hitchcock Blair; two daughters, Karen Logan
of Findlay, Ohio, and Judy Driscoll of Ashland, Ohio; three brothers, Tilman
of Dayton, Ohio, Francis of Lucasville, Ohio, and Norman of Enon, Ohio;
three sisters, Maola Burchett of Wittensville, Naomi Burchett of Stambaugh
and Viola Jones of Dayton; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Beaver Valley United Baptist Church,
with Elders Denver Caudill, Douglas Ward, Patrick Gilliland and Bob Hacknie
officiating. Burial followed in Waverly Evergreen Union Cemetery, with
Boyer Funeral Home Inc. of Waverly, Ohio, in charge of arrangements.

County resident Elder Paul H. Blair, 70, died Wednesday, February 28, 2001,
at SCCI Hospital, Lima, Ohio. Mr. Blair was born January 16, 1931, in Johnson
County, to the late Johnny B. and Rosie Colvin Blair. He was a retired
assembler from Ford Motor Company and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having
served during the Korean Conflict. Surviving are his wife, Shelby Jean
Ward Blair; one son, Paul O’Neil Blair of Ada, Ohio; one daughter, Katie
Lorraina Cornell of Bellefontaine, Ohio; one brother, Wayne B. Blair of
Staffordsville; one sister, Maxie Powers of Salyersville; and five grandchildren
and two step-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday at Hanson-Neely
Funeral Home of Ada, with Elders Greg Lewis and Pat Gilliland officiating.
Graveside services were held Sunday at Johnson County Memorial Cemetery,
with Elders Doug Ward and Claude Mollette officiating. Jones-Preston Funeral
Home was in charge of local arrangements.

Cantrill, 21, of Casselberry, Florida, formerly of Paintsville, died Thursday,
November 30, 2001. Mr. Cantrill attended Johnson County Schools, Our Lady
of the Mountains and Paintsville City Schools through seventh grade before
moving with family to Debary, Florida. He attended Deltona High School
and Daytona Beach Community College where he received his air conditioning
technician certificate. He was an air conditioning technician for Comfort
Air of Deland, Florida. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Henry
and Libby Cantrill of Paintsville and Paul E. Castle of Thealka. Surviving
are his father, Michael Cantrill of Casselberry; stepmother, Anne Cantrill
of Casselberry; mother, Rene Castle of Hollywood, Florida; stepfather,
Charles Billie-Hiers Sr. of Hollywood; one sister, Rendi Queen of Pensacola,
Florida; two stepsisters, Beth Jacobs of Casselberry and Stephanie Philpott
of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; two stepbrothers, Nat Jacobs of Winter Park, Florida,
and Billie Hiers of Hollywood; and grandparents, Abby and Ken Durnbaugh
of Sun City, Arizona. Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home Oaklawn Chapel of
Lake Mary, Florida, was in charge of arrangements.

son, Jerry L. Castle Jr. of Van Lear; one daughter, Robin Castle Ferguson
of Van Lear; four brothers, James and Jesse Salyer, both of Flat Gap, Cozy
Salyer of Crockett and Noah Salyer of Huntington, West Virginia; four sisters,
Manda Salyer and Esta Johnson, both of Flat Gap, Gay Salyer of West Virginia
and Moncie Vickers of Dandridge, Tennessee; and two grandchildren. Funeral
services were held Sunday at Upper Room Church, with William P. Perkins
and Jimmy Jennings officiating. Burial followed in Highland Memorial Park

County and Andrea Brown of Riceville; mother, Brenda Boyer of Bremen, Indiana;

of Bremen; and two sisters, Trish Spencer and Lisa Fisher, both of Bremen.

Imogene Caudill,
91, of Salyersville, died Sunday Feb.11 2001 in Paul B. Hall Medical Center
in Paintsville. Mrs. Caudill was born Aug. 8, 1909, in Salyersville, a
daughter of the late Robert and Pearl Rice Caudill. She was a former laborer
and a member of the Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Wilma Allen
of Salyersville; and two grandchildren. The funeral was at 1 p.m. today
at Salyersville Funeral Home by Matthew Gullion and Mark Campbell. Burial
was in Caudill Cemetery.

Collier was born June 20, 1936, in Lawrence County, to the late John N.
and Emily Fyffe Collier. He worked in maintenance at the Carl D. Perkins
Rehabilitation Center. Surviving are his wife, Willodene Keaton Collier;
and one sister, Florence Marie Collier Wagoner of Beaver Springs, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Collins was born October 4, 1914, in Johnson County, to the late Bailey

Jehovah’s Witnesses. Surviving are four sons, Jimmy Collins of Paintsville,
Jerry Collins of Lakeview, Oregon, Wayne Collins of Lillian, Texas, and
Dan Collins of Morehead; two daughters, Jane Perky of Royal Oak, Michigan,
and Telie Ellis of Wilmington, North Carolina; and 21 grandchildren and
several great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at a later

Betty Pack Cox, 66, died Sunday, February 18, 2001, at Pattie A. Clay Hospital.
Mrs. Cox was born October 4, 1934, to the late William Martin and Mary
Lester Pack. She attended Kirksville Christian Church, was host of “Let’s
Talk” Radio show on WEKY in Richmond in the late 1960s and was editor and
co-owner of Madison County Newsweek in the 1970s. She also wrote for the
Lexington Herald, Courier Journal and The Richmond Daily Register. Surviving
are her husband, James M. Cox; one son, J. Macklin Cox of Lexington; one
daughter, Terry Cox Epps of Kingwood, Texas; and two grandchildren. Funeral
services will be held today, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. at Oldham, Roberts and
Powell Funeral Home, with J. Donald Graham officiating. A private burial

81, of Lexington, formerly of Ashland, died Saturday Feb.03 2001 in Veterans
Administration Medical Center in Lexington. Mr. Cox was born July 15, 1919,
in Morgan County, a son of the late John David and Katie Fannin Cox. He
was a retired electrician with Local I.B.E.W. 317 of Huntington, a Kentucky
colonel, and a member of United Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons,
Sammie Cox of Ashland and James David Cox of Lexington; two stepsons, William
J. Brown of Breckenridge, Texas, and Ernest ``Bud" Brown of Owenton; a
daughter, Malinda Murray of Lexington; two brothers, Ora Cox of Western
and Buel Cox of West Liberty; a sister, Reva Keeton Ellis of Huntington;
five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Caniff Funeral Home in
Westwood. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in Staffordsville.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before the service
Wednesday at the funeral home.

Crabtree, 78, of Louisa, died Friday Feb.02 2001 in Three Rivers Medical
Center in Louisa. Mrs. Crabtree was born Sept. 1, 1922, in Flat Gap, a
daughter of the late Crate and Ollie Sloane. She was a member of Smith
Chapel Church. Surviving are her husband, Leo J. Crabtree; four daughters,
Violet Burke and Sharyl Winfree, both of Louisa, Linda Sue Thompson of
Fort Gay, W.Va., and Mary Magaline Maybee of St. Mary's, Ohio; two sons,
Danny Lee Ferguson of St. Mary's and Marvin Ferguson of Zanesville, Ohio;
several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. The funeral will
be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Smith Chapel Church in Louisa by the Rev. Noah
Robertson and the Rev. Luther Dingess. Burial will be in Yatesville Memorial

DeLong, 70, of Punta Gorda, Florida, died February 28 2001, at Fawcett
Memorial Hospital, Port Charlotte, Florida. Mr. DeLong was born July 31,
1930, at Nero, Kentucky, and moved to the Punta Gorda area in 1984 from
Findlay, Ohio. He worked for Cooper Tire & Rubber in Ohio before his
retirement. He was a member of Son’s of the American Legion Post #103 in
Punta Gorda, Loyal Order of the Moose #1693 Punta Gorda, VFW Post #212
in Findlay and member of United Rubber Workers Union. Surviving are two
sons, Ronnie of Woodstock, New York, and Dewayne of Findlay; four daughters,
Diane Andrews of Honor, Michigan, Gerry Thompson of Elkview, West Virginia,
Jackie DeLong of Findlay and Teresa DeLong of Punta Gorda; one sister,
Dorothy George of Findlay; one brother, Earnest DeLong of Wabash, Indiana;
and 18 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren. Memorial services were
held Monday, March 5, at American Legion Post #103 in Punta Gorda. Further
memorial services will be held Saturday, March 17, at 2 p.m. at the Upper

William “Bill” Dutton Jr., 95, died Friday, February 2, 2001 at Williamson
Memorial Hospital, Williamson, West Virginia. Mr. Dutton was born March
26, 1905, in Johnson County, to the late William and Julie Castle Dutton.
Surviving are his wife, Gypsie M. Crum Dutton; three sons, Panzel L. Dutton
of Xenia, Ohio, Donald Dutton of Kokoma, Indiana, and Raymond G. Dutton
of Miamisburg, Ohio; and seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at Little Friendship United Baptist Church,
with Jake Crum, Claude Mollette, Glen Penix and Shade Walters officiating.

Goodwin died February 8, 2001. Mrs. Goodwin was born March 8, 1927, at
Garth, to the late Henry C. Burnett and Flossie Calhoun Burnett. She was
also preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Murphy. Surviving are a daughter,
Lisa Griffin; one son, Reginald Goodwin Jr.; one grandson, T.J. Griffin;
one brother, Henry Burnett Jr. of Huntington, West Virginia; and three
sisters, Betty Phelps of Phoenix, Arizona, Martha Winkler of Thacker, Arizona,
and Madonna Riffe of Stanton. Private services and cremation were held

of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Surviving are his
wife, Audrey Mollette Hanshaw; one brother, Carl Hanshaw of Lancaster;
and one sister, Dorothy Devrees of Lancaster. Funeral services were held

at Paintsville. Mr. Howard was born May 16, 1951, in Magoffin County, a
son of David Paul Howard of Salyersville and the late Naomi Ruth Howard.

was a member of Baptist Church in Meally. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Charles Jennings. Surviving are a son, Bill Mac Jennings of

died in 1980. She was retired from Sears, was a graduate of Paintsville
High School and was a member of the United Baptist Church and the Creative
Crafts Club. Surviving are two daughters, Phyllis Piercy of Ashland and
Imogene Cain of Hermitage, Tenn.; a brother, Ernest Eugene Conley of Orlando,
Fla.; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be
