A little something about myself

My genealogical research began in September 1997. This was when I decided to keep my childhood promise to my dear deceased father, William Moore. He was put into a children's home when he was 10 years old, and always wondered about his origins. I promised him that when I grew up I would find out the truth  behind his sad story. He was born in Belfast County Down Northern Ireland in 1903. Of course it was just Ireland at the time of his birth as the partition of Ireland did not occur until 1922. I have learned that in genealogy you always start with yourself. So before I get into all the ancestors and what really interests you, the visitor, here is a brief outline of how I came to be in the land of the living.

I was born in Banbridge Co. Down Northern Ireland on 12th July 1938. My father was William Moore and my mother was Sarah Jane Hawthorne. I have a sister and niece who still live in Northern Ireland. I came to England with my parents in October 1953. Apart from a five year spell of living on the continent I have always lived in Staffordshire England ever since

I have one daughter, Miriam, two grandsons, four great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons and one great-great granddaughter. I live with my husband Leo and Samson our Great-Dane. We have retired from our respective businesses. Leo was a motor trader specializing in commercial vehicles. I for my sins was a publican. I owned and ran several pubs, clubs and restaurants. Before that I was a psychiatric nurse. I retrained in IT and taught part time at our local college until my 70th birthday. I also taught voluntarily at our local hospital up until I was 73 years old. I now have more time on my hands to pursue my family tree. I am more than happy to assist anybody with shared interests in genealogy as much as I am able to.  I am hoping this site will be of assistance to anybody interested in tracing their ancestors in any of the countries specified. I am always keen to learn anything about any of my family names. Please e-mail me with any information, or if you think I can help you in any way with your family history research.
