Pets Corner

My husband and I have spent our lives adopting and caring for abandoned and mistreated animals.
I would like to share some of the happier pictures of some of them with my guests.

Bobby & Penny
Bobby was a wild kitten who never really got tame. He used to bring me presents with heads and tails missing. He once brought a small rabbit. As you can see he was great friends with Penny the Yorkshire Terrier. Circa 1978.

Penny & Candice
Candice was our beautiful black Great Dane who came to us at 11 weeks old. She loved Penny the Yorkshire Terrier and indeed thought that she was a Yorkie too. She used to have frequent phantom pregnancies. A rubber squeaky toy was her pretend puppy. Circa 1978

Cassie & her kittens
Cassie was a very small undernourished and pregnant cat that my daughter Miriam found living wild. She brought Cassie home and she gave birth to the two beautiful kittens pictured above. Circa 1980.

Heidi & Rocky
When the cat is away the mice will play! Rocky and Heidi caught red-handed snoozelling on our bed! Circa 1993

Honey & Jacque

Honeysuckle Irish Rose. A beautiful palomino mare with her foal Honeysuckle Irish Jacque. His sire was Frere Jacque the French racehorse. Circa 1970

Jenny & her foal and Jean

Jenny with her 24 hours old foal and myself. June 1972. We used to always keep a donkey in the field with a single horse as they get lonely and need company.

Frere Jacque
Frere Jacque the French racehorse who was the sire of Honey's foal above circa 1970

Susan, Pony & Jean in Co Cork 1976
I think this photo was taken in Mallow County Cork while on holiday.

Jenny's foal & Cindy
Cindy was a bow backed mare. Her companion is Jenny's foal at 3 three weeks old. June 1972. Cindy was take to Frere Jacque but gave birth to a black and white foal. So evidently one of our other little colts beat Frere Jacque to the post!!!

Miriam, Lucky & Leo
My daughter Miriam at 13 years old with Lucky her pony and her Dad Leo astride Lucky. Circa 1969.

Linda's Expert & Jean
Linda's Expert with me. We called her Linda when she retired from greyhound racing She won very many races for us. She was small but incredibly fast. She became a loving pet on her retirement in 1985.

Serena King & Heidi
Serena King is another retired greyhound. He was a distance dog who was a champion. He became famous in the pub that I ran and drew many admirers. He was an adorable and loving pet He is taking a nap here with Heidi the Great Dane. Circa 1985

Little Boy
This is Cassie's kitten now grown up. His name was Salt. Sadly his sister Pepper was killed by a car. His name soon became Little Boy instead of Salt. Circa 1980.

Susan & Penny
A likely pair of Yorkshire Terriers! Susan on the left and Penny in the summer of 1976. Susan lived to be 21 years old when she had a wee heart attack and died in my arms on Boxing Day after a wonderful Christmas. Penny lived until she was 14 years old.
