Submitted by John Blair Hagler, who received the letter from Joe Sims, the son of John A. Sims who was the original recipient of the letter.

The letter was written on Odell Manufacturing Co letter head paper from Concord, N.C. that shows J.M. Odell, President and W.R. Odell was treasurer. The letter was dated Nov 27/97 to Mr. John A. Sims and says:

Dear Sir:

When we carried Prohibition
in Concord we had only 2 Cotton Mills
with a capital of $132,000 - Since that
time 5 mills have been built & put in
operation & we have another now in
course of erection, when completed &
equiped we will have invested in
Cotton Mills alone $800,000 - We have increased
in population about 3000 people since 1886.
All this has increased other businesses
in the town - We had 5 Saloons previous
to the time of our Election -
Tell those good people in Raleigh if
they will come here we can show
them the best town in the State &
it is largely due to Prohibition -
                                         Yours truly
                                         WR Odell
