This is a folded lettersheet / stampless letter that was found on ebay. It has a manuscript postal marking for Jacksonham SC, a 5 cent rate and is addressed to Mr. William C. Sterns, Camden, Wilcox county, Alabama, and is a one page letter written and signed by different people. There's a seal affixed for Union County North Carolina on the second page. The postal markings, which includes the handwritten name of the town, on the front cover area of the lettersheet are in the handwriting of the local Post Master. It would be fun to research and find out the name of the Post Master at that time. The first page is a "Know all men by these presents" document, mentions Hugh B. McCain and Elenor his wife, heirs at law of Mary Sterns decd [Union County NC]". Also mentions William C. Sterns, power of attorney, this is signed Hugh B. M'Cain and his wife makes her mark 'x'. Witnessed by G.W. Harris, 5th January 1853. Then a Justice of the Peace writes some and signs his name, M W Cuthbertson. The next page has some writing by J W Stewart. More writing on the next page by D A Covington. Then Hugh B. McCain writes a personal message to William C. Sterns on half of the third page. He also says to direct letters to Jacksonham Po Office, Lancaster Dist, South Carolina. Sorry - This is all the info I have about this document and this is the only image available.
