Photo of James Edmund 'Tug' Caudle and Mary Angeline Griffin Caudle.click on photo for larger view. .James Edmund 'Tug' Caudle was born Aug 26, 1868 in Anson Co. and died Aug 1, 1900 in Lanesboro Twp., Anson Co., NC. He was the son of Edmond D. Caudle and Margaret Jane Covington Caudle. He married Mary Angeline Griffin on Nov 26, 1894 in Union Co., NC. She was born Aug 16, 1876 and died Nov 17, 1900 in Lanesboro Twp., Anson Co., NC, the daughter of Hezekiah L. Griffin and Samantha Catherine Leaird Griffin. Both Tug and Mary died of malaria within months of each other, leaving 3 young children: Letchie Samantha (age 3), Ernest Willie (age 2), & Lula Bell (age 2 months when her mother died). They are buried at Caudle-Covington Cemetery, 1 m. N. of Peachland, Peachland-Polkton Rd.  Note: Lula Bell (or Belle) Caudle married Calvin Lee Caudle, son of James Carson Caudle.
