Union Co. was formed from the
union of Anson Co. and Mecklenburg Co., NC in 1842, therefore, those who lived
in what is now Union Co., may be found in the earlier records of it’s parent
counties.
The book included two lists of the Militia of Anson Co, NC. They are identified below as the 1812 list and the 1814 list for easier identification.
1812 List: Muster Roll of
the Infantry detached from the Militia of North Carolina, in Pursuance of a
requisition of the President of the United States in virtue of an Act of
Congress of the 10th of April, 1812.
Fourth Regiment, detached from 4th and 14th Brigades, included the 8th
and 9th Companies, detached from the Anson Regiment.
1814 List: Muster Roll of the detached Militia, organized in August 1814. Third Regiment included Anson County, which was divided into the 1st and 2nd Regiments.

[1]-From La Wanda Goodwin <[email protected]>: “I have in my possession a "card" which I obtained from the NC State Archives in Raleigh regarding one of my ancestors, an Eli Smith. Eli is the shortened version, but I can't decipher the old writing; it looks like "Eliphilet Smith." The Card reads: State of North Carolina, No. 11, Raleigh, May 7, 1815, AGREEABLY to the Report of the Auditors appointed to settle and adjust the Military and other Claims for services performed and supplies furnished the detached Militia called into service of the United States in July and August, 1813, approved and filed with me, "Eliphilet Smith" a private in the company of "Anson" Militia commanded by "Capt. J. M. To ?? lle (a hole is punched in the card!) is entitled to receive out of the Public Treasure the sum of "$6 - 40/100" for the payment of which this shall be a Warrant. "Mile Miller" (not sure about the spelling of this first name either). Eli Smith's name does not appear with the others who served in the War of 1812.”
