DEFINITIONS OF SOME OF THE CAUSES OF DEATH SHOWN ABOVE:
Apopletic Fit – Stroke or Hemorrhage
Bold Hives – Croup
Consumption – Tuberculosis
Croup – Hoarse cough caused by virus, in infants.
Dropsy – Swelling or fluid retention often caused by kidney or heart disease.
Flux – Dysentery; An excessive flow or discharge of
fluid like hemorrhage or diarrhea.
Gravel – Passage of small stones formed in the kidney with the
urine.
Hives – In the 1800’s, term used for croup, laryngitis or other condition where there is breathing difficulty.
Palsy – Stroke or Paralysis; Uncontrolled movement of controlled muscles.
Putrid Sore Throat – Ulceration of the Tonsils, or Diphtheria
Scroffula – Tuberculosis of lymph glands
Teething – Tooth infections with inflammation
Typhoid Fever - Infectious fever that causes severe diarrhea
Whooping cough – Highly contagious disease of the respiratory system, usually affecting children.
