Hamilton-Griffin Cemetery, Union County, North Carolina

Tombstone of THOMAS GRIFFIN located at HAMILTON-GRIFFIN FAMILY CEMETERY, Union County, North Carolina. For cemetery transcription and additional photos, see HAMILTON-GRIFFIN CEMETERY. If you turn east on Ansonville Rd from NC HWY 205 a dirt road is located on the right prior to crossing Negro Head Creek (now known as Salem Creek). If you take the dirt road through the first field the open land narrows before opening up into another larger field. At the point where the field narrows an old bottomless chairsits tothe right. This marks the 'path' (about 50 ft or so) to the cemetery, enclosed by a chain link fence. It is on private property owned by a member of the Stegall family. Negro Head Creek defines the eastern edge of the ~55 acreparcel that includes the cemetery.

THOMAS GRIFFIN was born about 1750 in Virginia and died about 1807 in Anson County, NC (present day Union Co.). Per Connie Thompson: I have read from an undocumented source that he served under Captain John Gist's Company in Colonel Nathan Gist's 1st VA Regiment in 1777 and that he enlisted a second time and served in the 2nd VA Regiment under Captain John Smith's Company in Colonel Gregory Smith's Regiment.
